Monday Night Football – Giants Focused On Tonight, Redskins Focused On 2010

It’s been a good week for the NFC East so far as sportsbetting fans saw the Dallas Cowboys upset the previously unbeaten New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles clinched a playoff berth with a win over the San Francisco 49ers.

On Monday Night Football, the remaining two NFC East teams will go head-to-head in a matchup of two teams with very differing goals.

On one side, the Giants are the last remaining NFC team with a chance to make the postseason that is currently on the outside looking in. On the other side, the Redskins hired a new general manager last week and are in negotiations with former NFL head coach Mike Shanahan to take over the reins in 2010.

The Redskins have played good football over the last month and have surprised a lot of sports wagering experts that have been betting against them. The Redskins have covered five straight games.

New York Giants @ Washington Redskins
Bookmaker Odds (Bookmaker Reviews): Giants -1

The Giants have lost six of their last eight games, which is part of the reason why a lot of bettors have soured on them but you have to take a good look at who they have played during their slump.

The Giants started 5-0, then lost to New Orleans, Arizona, Philadelphia and San Diego. What do these four teams have in common? They all lead the divisions that they play in.

Then the Giants defeated Atlanta, lost to Denver, beat Dallas and lost to Philadelphia. Three of those teams are heading to the playoffs while the Falcons are 7-7.

In that entire stretch, the Giants have yet to play a team below .500. The Redskins will be their first since a matchup with the Oakland Raiders on October 11th.

Speaking of the Oakland Raiders, that’s who the Redskins defeated last week. Behind some impressive play by quarterback Jason Campbell, the Redskins have been fairly good over their five-game covering streak. Sure, they’ve only won two of those games but in their three losses – to Dallas, Philadelphia and New Orleans – they lost by just seven points in total.

This is going to be a competitive, back-and-forth game and both teams have a slew of injuries. You can probably expect this game to go over the total. But the Giants need this game more than the Redskins and even though Washington will be valiant, the Giants will make a few extra plays in the second half.

The current line stands at Giants -1 which basically means it is a pick-um. The Redskins have done a great job at keeping games close, but have lacked the ability to pull off the win. If the ‘Skins were getting 3 I would jump on it, but at +1 it is just too close to call.
