Bulldogs vs. Spartans Predictions – 2009 Capital One Bowl Betting

Point spread for the 2009 Capital One Bowl college football clash between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Michigan St. Spartans, plus the betting spreads, and betting trends for ncaa football gambling…

Capital One Bowl Georgia Bulldogs vs. Michigan State

The Georgia Bulldogs wish that they were playing in the BCS Championship instead of the Capital One Bowl. The Bulldogs were ranked number one in almost every sports betting fans’ list to start the college football season, but nobody told the Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Those are the three teams that the Bulldogs lost to straight-up as well as against the spread. In fact, Georgia was one of the worst teams in the SEC against the BetUS online betting spread this season going 3-7-1. That’s awful. They still have a powerful offense with Knowshon Moreno running the ball and Matthew Stafford throwing it, but that record against the spread is going to be tough for college football betting fans to look past.

The Michigan State Spartans were somewhat of a surprise this season. They lost three games straight-up, to the California Golden Bears, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Against the BetUS online wagering spread the Spartans were a decent .500 going 6 and 6 on the season. They tend to run off victories after losses racking up 6 straight wins after the loss to Cal and 3 straight wins after the loss to Ohio State. The Spartans are not a pushover Big-Ten team.

Here are the BetUS Sportsbook online NCAAF odds for this game:

Michigan State Spartans + 7 ½ – 110 + 250 O 54 – 110
Georgia Bulldogs – 7 ½ – 110 – 300 U 54 – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:

The Michigan State Spartans are 6 and 0 against the spread in their last 6 games after an against the spread loss.
The Michigan State Spartans are 10 and 4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
The Georgia Bulldogs are 1 and 4 against the spread versus a team with a winning record.
The Georgia Bulldogs are 1 and 6 against the spread in their last 7 games after a straight-up loss.

The trends say Michigan State beats the spread and I really can’t argue. The truth is that past Stafford and Moreno, the Bulldogs aren’t as good of a team as football betting fans thought at the beginning of the season. Georgia almost dropped a game to the Kentucky Wildcats and it’s been a down year for Kentucky.

Michigan State isn’t Ohio State or Penn State but they’re not a bad team. They have the ability to run the ball and throw it. They also have a better defense than most online betting fans might think. More importantly, they finally have their coaching situation straightened out which means the program should only get better from now on.

Capital One Bowl Prediction:

I like the Spartans to beat the spread. Georgia can be an intimidating team, but Michigan State should bring that tough Big-Ten offensive line mentality to this game. I don’t see this going over the BetUS Total either. So, I’m saying a parlay with the Spartans + 7 ½ to the under 54 might be worth an online bet.
