Free PGA Picks: 2015 British Open Championship Golf Betting Preview

This Week’s PGA Tour Predictions!

The third Major of the year comes our way from the Old Course at St. Andrews this week for the 29th time- I can’t wait. All eyes will be on Jordan Spieth as he tries to win the third leg of the Grand Slam (The British Open Championship) – he has been as good as any golfer has been through the first seven months of any year I can remember.

The Old Course at St. Andrews is a 7,297 yard par-72 layout with just two par 5s and two par 3s – obviously par 4 scoring average is a critical stat to look at. Bombers traditionally do well here on this links style track. Just like the US Open there will be plenty of roll for the big hitters – with 14 par 4s, getting the ball down the track will definitely help!

The most important factor when picking a winner here is track history – period (with the exception of the Teflon Pawn Jordan Spieth). Course management is key – patience and an innate ability of picking you spots will rule and therefore veterans, outside of Spieth should do well.

With that in mind who should we be keeping our eye on this week? Let’s take a look.

2015 British Open Championship Favorites:

Jordan Spieth 9/2

Incredible – that’s the only word to describe Spieth right now. He has won four of his last 12 starts including the first two Majors of the year and looks as unflappable as they come. His game is about as well-rounded as any in the field, he has the creativity to make a mockery of this track, his putter is insane and most of all Spieth is as confident a guy as there is on the planet right now. We saw what Spieth can do on a rock-hard links style track already this year – it’s gonna be hard to bet against him here!

Dustin Johnson 11/1

If there is one guy that NEEDS to knock Spieth off his perch it is Johnson who SHOULD HAVE won the US Open. He has make the cut five straight years at the Open with top 15 finishes in four of those years and a T14 on this very track in 2010. Johnson has the length, the creativity and the revenge-factor to be a threat here this week. Maybe karma pays him back in his first start since his heartbreaking US Open experience.

Rickie Fowler 16/1

Fowler always saves his best for the Majors and enters off a terrific win in the Scottish Open last week.

[dfads params=’groups=63742&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He has three top 15s in his last five starts at the Open including two top 5s. He did finish T14 on this track in 2010 and arrives with a ton of momentum. His PLAYERS win and his victory last week prepared him well – now may be a time for a Major breakthrough.

2015 British Open Championship Contenders:

Justin Rose 18/1

Where have you gone Justin?

Adam Scott 20/1

Scott is another guy that arrives in unflattering form. But her has finished inside the top 5 in his last three Open Championships. Steve Williams is back on the bag – he seems to be a difference-maker and off a T4 at the US Open, Scott is a sneaky pick at 20/1.

Henrik Stenson 20/1

One of the best pure ball-strikers in the world, Stenson has to be on the conversation. He has top 10s in the last three years at the Open and had a T3 at St. Andrews in 2010. He had a second place finish in Germany three weeks ago so we know his game is in decent all-around form. Stenson always makes some noise in Majors – just not enough to claim victory – SO FAR!

Louis Oosthuizen 22/1

Won the Open the last time it was held at St. Andrews and is coming off a T2 at the US Open when he absolutely lit up the weekend and almost qualified for a playoff. His victory here in 2010 came by an astounding seven strokes and based on his current form, Louis should be in the mix again this week.

Tiger Woods 25/1

Ya, Right!

Phil Mickelson 33/1

Won this event in 2013 and was T2 in 2011 and third in 2004. But a bet on Phil is risky as always – I’m staying away.

Sergio Garcia 33/1

Ah Sergio! If he is going to win a Major, it will be the Open. He finished T2 here last year and has eight top 10s in this event in 15 tries including a T5 in 2005 and a T14 the last time the Open was held here. Sergio has top 20 finishes in both Majors so far and could be prime for a breakthrough this week.

Brandt Snedeker 40/1

Sneds has been playing some good golf lately – top 10 finishes in his last four starts including an eighth place finish in the US Open.

[dfads params=’groups=526&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

In the last three years at the Open he has a T3 and T11. Snedeker come in Hot and could be a factor at 40/1 odds.

2015 British Open Championship Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Brooks Koepka 50/1

Koepka could be good value at 50/1.Not only do his driving stats line up very well with St. Andrews but he also went 12 under in two rounds in last year’s Dunhill Links when it was held here. Track history is always something to keep an eye on and with that in mind Koepka deserves a mention.

Tommy Fleetwood 66/1

Is a guy that absolutely eats this course up! Check these numbers out – he’s 26 under par in his last four rounds here and has gone an unfathomable 42 under par in his last eight rounds at St. Andrews. Just sayin’.

Charl Schwartzel 80/1

Has finished top 16 in four of the last five Open Championships and had a seventh place finish on the links style Chambers Bay track. He was T14 the last time that St. Andrews hosted the Open and looks for his first win since the 2011 Masters.

2015 British Open Championship Picks:

As mentioned, it is awfully tough to bet against Spieth here but I am. Dustin Johnson at 11/1 is my pick to avenge his heartbreaking loss at the US Open. A bomber is going to get it done this week – consider DJ as the best of the bombers!

Sticking with the bombers theme – my sleeper is Brooks Koepka at 50/1. His game has been too good to ignore. Tommy Fleetwood and his incredible record here is also enticing me!
