Free PGA Picks: 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Betting Preview

This Week’s PGA Tour Predictions!

The PGA pros move to Texas this week to play the 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club – a par 70 track that stretches out to 7,204 yards. Obviously, length off the tee won’t be critical – accuracy and good overall ball-striking will be at a premium.

Things to keep an eye on this week are par 4 scoring average, driving accuracy and strong iron play from 150 yards. Current form and course history will also give you an idea of who should do well this week on a course that is average in just about every which way.

With all that in mind who should we have on out radar? Let’s take a look.

2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Favorites:

Jordan Spieth 5/1

Showed he was mortal by missing the cut at The Players. Spieth plays in his home town this week looking to bounce back and who doesn’t like his chances?

[dfads params=’groups=63742&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He has nine top 20s and 2 wins so far this year, leads the TOUR in adjusted scoring and has top 15 finishes in both appearances at this event. In a slightly watered down field, Spieth is the obvious favorite.

Zach Johnson 14/1

Two-time champ has finished in the top four in four of the past five years – stellar track record and he has finished inside the top 20 in five of his last six starts overall (zero top 5s).

He did finish T73 here last year however – he is capable of a dud as well.

Still, on a track in which length isn’t the determining factor and a superb short game is – Zach is firmly on the radar.

Jimmy Walker 18/1

Has been quiet since the Valero including a missed cut at The Players but could make some noise this week. He finished 10th here last year, he played his college golf in Texas – he always seems to show up in the Lone Star State.

Walker is #1 on TOUR in strokes gained: putting and second in birdies-or-better percentage – great attributes for this track.

2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Contenders:

Adam Scott 28/1

Defending champion is 28/1 for a reason – I’m staying away!

Chris Kirk 28/1

Has made the cut all five times he’s played here with three top 20sincluding a T-14 last year and a T-5 in 2012. He has made the cut in four of the last five weeks including a T17 at the Match Play and a T13 at THE PLAYERS – tending upward ahead of this week.

Kevin Na 28/1

[dfads params=’groups=526&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Na has been remarkably consistent – top 20s in his last six stroke play events including a T6 at The Players. He is right on that cusp and against a weakfish field this week could emerge. He has five top 25s in this event.

Paul Casey 28/1

Playing the best golf he has in years – there a few holes in his game right now. Casey plays for the first time since withdrawing from The Players because of illness. Before that he strung together three straight top 10s – five top 10s in his last seven starts overall including a T6 at the Masters.

Casey is once again a threat every time he tees it up.

Ryan Palmer 28/1

Local guy and member at Colonial always plays well in Texas – a T6 in San Antonio was a disappointment but a good result nonetheless. He has made the cut the last four years and has finished in the top five twice. He has struggled in his last three starts overall but the state of Texas always brings the best out in Palmer.

Ian Poulter 33/1

Has gone T-30 last week, T-18 at the RBC Heritage, and T-6 at The Masters in his last three starts. He ranks eighth in adjusted scoring on TOUR and T3 in par 4 scoring – superb traits for Colonial.

Ricky Fowler won after being named one of the most overrated players on TOUR – another one on that list – Ian Poulter will have that same motivation this week.

2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Boo Weekley 66/1

Won this event in 2013 and finished ninth in 2010 – his game is better than any point during those seasons. He finished third in New Orleans last month and had a T16 at the Wells Fargo and now gets to return to arguably his favorite track. Boo’s putter may be the difference this week.

Shawn Stefani 66/1

Texas guy has quietly registered 8 top 25s this season including a T9 at Quail Hollow. He may be motivated for a big week. Stefani is 14th on TOUR in adjusted scoring and 7th in all-around – pretty good numbers heading into this week.

Jason Dufner 75/1

Hey skinny man! You have finished second in this event twice in the past and you need something to get you back into form. Where have you gone Mr. Dufner –come back!

2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Pick:

The pick this week Paul Casey at 28/1 whose accuracy and all around game will finally be rewarded. He has been playing some great golf and he’s had some success here.

The Sleeper is Boo Weekley at 66/1. He is a former winner here and has consecutive top 16 finishes on TOUR ahead of this event.
