The top 120 point getters in the FedEx Cup standings will tee it up on the 7,012 par 70 track that features two par 5s, four par 3s and 12 par 4s. The goal is to remain inside the top 100 so as to advance to the Deutsch Bank Championship next week.

Plainfield hosted this event in 2011. Hurricane Irene provided ultra-soft conditions and forced the tournament to be shortened to 54 holes. It was the easiest par 71 track that the pros played in 2011 dry conditions mean that it will play tougher this go-around.

The winner here will have to go low – Dustin Johnson won here in 2011 with a minus 19 score (after only 54 holes!).Par 4 scoring average is a stat that jumps off the page as an aspect of one’s game to keep focused on. A hot putter and an ability to weave a little magic around the greens will also be important. As always, current form is also on my radar this week.

2015 Barclays Favorites:

Jordan Spieth 11/2

The new World #1 plays his first tournament as the Hunted! He also led the FedEx Cup in points this past season thanks to a year for the ages. He has never played Plainfield but he didn’t play a lot of the other courses he tore up this season. Spieth led the TOUR in adjusted scoring and hasn’t been outside of the top 10 in a tournament since May – expect him to be in the mix AGAIN!

Jason Day 9/1

Day was due and he provided the terrific win at Whistling Straits – he is a close 1B to Spieth. He has three wins and eight top ten finishes this year and enters having finished inside the top 12 in his last 12 starts – two wins. He was T2 in this event last year when it was played on a different track and had a T13 the last time the Barclays visited Plainfield. Day is as Hot as they come and will definitely challenge this week again.

Dustin Johnson 11/1

Won this tournament the last time it was held on this track and is coming off a T7 at Whistling Straits. He didn’t get his Major this past season but he was in contention every time he teed it up. If it’s not a Major, DJ will be in the conversation – he has eight top 10s this year and already has a stellar track history here. Why not?

Justin Rose 11/1

Has been inside the top 6 in his last four starts including two Majors. He was T6 the last time this event was contested here. Rose has the all around game to make some noise here – he just needs a little luck and for some of the heavier favorites to look human. Never look past Rose when he is in the form he’s in – never.

2015 Barclays Contenders:

Brooks Koepka 22/1

Has been trending upward for months now – eight straight top 25s ahead of this week. He has been inside the top 6 in his last three starts overall – top 18 in seven straight events – 14 of last 16 rounds have been in the 60s! Outside of the top two favorites there isn’t anyone playing better golf right now. He will be extra-motivated with a President’s Cup berth on the line – expect Koepka to be charged up this week.

Matt Kuchar 33/1

Is finally starting to show the form he had last year. He has two top seven finishes in his last three starts overall and four top 25s in his last five – peaking ahead of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He finished second on this track the last time the Barclays was held here and was T5 in this event last year as well. Kuch is under the radar for sure – exactly where he likes to be.

Brandt Snedeker 40/1

Sneds has been doing everything but winning as of late – five top 15s in his last seven starts overall – top 10s in four of his last eight. He finished T3 on this track in 2011 and shot a course record 61 in that tournament. Despite an ugly final round at the Wyndham Snedeker is still on my radar as perhaps the best value on the board.

2015 Barclays Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Robert Streb 50/1

Has been consistently good this summer and has eight top 20s in his last nine starts overall including a playoff loss at The Greenbrier, a T-10 at Whistling Straits and a solo-fifth place finish at Firestone. He is T11 on TOUR in GIR and 18th in adjusted scoring – stats that line up well with this track this week.

Danny Lee 66/1

Won the Greenbrier earlier this year and has four top 10s in his last six starts overall – a terrific run. I love this kid and with a potential President’s Cup bid on the line could be a factor.

Tony Finau 70/1

Has been very good this summer – nine top 25s in his last 11 starts overall. He finished top 15 in the last two Majors and looks more than ready for a huge breakthrough this week. Finau has been trending upward for months now and just may be paid off sooner than later.

2015 Barclays Picks:

It is pretty easy to make a case for Jordan Spieth and Jason Day this week but I’m staying away and going with the third hottest player on TOUR Brooks Koepka at 22/1. With 14 of his last 16 rounds in the 60s it is hard to imagine his slowing down that pace this week. Koepka is due for his second win.

The Sleeper this week is Robert Streb at 50/1. His game is perfect for this track and his consistency cannot be ignored.
