Not only are FedEx Cup points on the line this week but so too are invites to Hyundai Tournament of Champions, the Masters Tournament, THE PLAYERS Championship and the PGA Championship.

The Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort is expected to become a battle of the putters this week – the track is short at 7,005 yards and is the easiest Par-70 course that the Pros played last year. Driving and greens in regulation shouldn`t be a problem this week – putts will be the key.

So who should we keep an eye on with that in mind – let`s take a look.

The Favorites:

Webb SIMPSON 10/1

The last time we saw Webb he won the Shriners three weeks ago and this week he gets a course that he absolutely loves – a T12 at Seaside in 2010 to go along with a loss in a playoff to Ben Crane in 2011. In his eight rounds here he averaged 67 – pretty impressive! He is one of the few elite that will tee it up this week and the obvious favorite.

Matt KUCHAR 12/1

Hasn’t played since the President’s Cup where he was 3-2-0. Kuch is a Sea Island resident that has a pair of top 25s in his two starts at the Seaside Course with no top 20s. He is a good putter which will come in handy this week – rust is the only factor that may slow him down.

Zach JOHNSON 12/1

Another Sea Island guy had a T12 here in 2010 for his best finish in three starts (2 missed cuts were the other two). He has been hot of late – seven top 10s (1 win) in his last nine starts but course history here is a tad sketchy.

The Contenders:

Charles HOWELL III 25/1

Has looked good to kick off 2013-2014 – three starts and three cuts made including a T5 at the Shriners and a T7 at the CIMB Classic. He has played well here too – three starts and three cuts made with two top 10s. He has the game to contend here for sure – Howell is an intriguing 25/1.

Harris ENGLISH 25/1

Yet another Sea Island resident had a T7 at the CIMB last time out and rested after that. He finished T15 here last year and has the solid all-around game to contend here in a watered-down field.

Luke GUTHRIE 28/1

Has looked very good in this young season – a T5 at the Shriners and a solo fourth at the BMW Masters – he was atop the leaderboard in both those tourneys at one point. He’s been quietly consistent and is a name to watch this week.

Brendon DE JONGE 28/1

One of the bigger names this week hasn’t been playing all that well so far this year – he’s failed to break 70 in six rounds this year. He does have an OK history here though – a T15 in 2010 and a share of fourth place last year but his present form scares me off this week.

Boo WEEKLEY 33/1

Looked good in the tour of Asia and has an OK history here – a missed cut in 2010, a T44 in ’11 and a T27 in ’12. He is coming off a T11 at the HSBC and in a less than stellar field could emerge.

David TOMS 40/1

Finished second here last year and tied for third in 2010 (with a head-scratching missed cut in 2011) but his course history here is like none other. He hits fairways, he plays Par 4s extremely well and his proximity stats are terrific – a perfect combination on this track. He closed out his 2013 season with three straight top 20s and had a T36 to start this season. At 40/1 Toms offers decent value.

Jeff OVERTON 40/1

Has been very good to start the season – T16s at the Frys.com and the CIMB surrounding a T9 at the Shriners. He has shot par or better in all eight rounds on this track including a T6 in 2011. In a less-than-stellar field Overton is one to watch based on his good start to the season.

The Sleepers

(50/1 or higher)

Chris Kirk 50/1

Local kid has been decent this young season – a T36 to start the year at TPC Summerlin, and then a T25 at the CIMB Classic. His best finish here in three starts is a T15 but his numbers suggest that he should do better this week – third in Par 4 Birdie or Better Percentage, second in Par 4 Performance and 12th and fifth respectively in the Par 3 numbers. He won’t have to contend with any insane Par 5s this week and will be able to let his short game and putter be the stars.

Sean O’HAIR 75/1

Interesting 75-1 shot finished T15 at the Shriners and has two top 20 finishes here in two starts. He looks like a different man heading into the 2013-2014 season and could surprise this week.

The Pick:

The pick this week is Matt Kuchar at 12/1. Local guy and one of the most consistent player on TOUR will be looking to kick his 2013-2014 season off right – and does this week!

In staying with the Georgia connection, I’ll take Chris Kirk at 50/1 as my sleeper. His course history isn’t great here which is strange. He appears to have the perfect style to thrive on this course.
