While March Madness betting players are gearing up for a busy sportsbook weekend, there’s some action on the links out there for online golf betting players. This week’s stop is the Transitions Championship, to be held at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, and the “Copperhead” course is known as one of the toughest on the Tour.Sean O’Hair is the defending champion in this event, but he’ll have to hold off a former two-time winner, as well as a veteran whose game is rounding into form.

Jim Furyk is the golf betting favorite at +1000 this week and he is coming off a third-place finish at the WGC-CA Championship which was sparked by a birdie binge on the back nine on Sunday. Furyk’s never played this event, but his all-around game, punctuated by accurate driving and one of the Tour’s best short games, should be well-suited for Copperhead.

K.J. Choi won this event in 2002 and 2006, so his familiarity with the course has given him golf betting odds of +2000 this weekend. Choi didn’t play very well at the WGC-CA Championship, finishing in 59th, but he is still fourth in greens-in-regulation this season. As long as he keeps giving himself opportunities, Choi will be in good shape.

O’Hair also has online betting odds of +2000, and the 26-year-old has yet to finish outside the top 25 in six starts this year, which includes a couple of top-fives and last week’s 13th-place finish at the WGC-CA Championship.

Two golf betting darkhorses that are worth a look are Steve Stricker at +2500, and Nick Watney at +3300. Stricker was 13th at the WGC-CA Championship, and his final-round 66 in this event last year was the best among the top 25 finishers. Watney came up agonizingly short in his Sunday duel with Phil Mickelson in the WGC, and he already won this year at the Buick Invitational. He finished T-23 here in 2008, and his 67 in the final round was just short of Stricker.

There will be a lot of good golf on display this week at Innisbrook, but the play here is on Steve Stricker. He’s always good enough to hang around until Sunday, and a putter of Stricker’s ability is always dangerous. For a solid golf betting value pick, go with the dependable Steve Stricker.

This ended up being a great tournament to watch. It’s good to see Ratief back in the winners circle!
