The Capitals surely want to forget their last game as quickly as possible, as they dropped their last contest to the Dallas Stars by a score of 5-0. They’ll look to make some ground in the Eastern Conference playoff standings against another team that is competing for a postseason spot.

The Capitals now find themselves heading out on a four-game road trip while riding a four-game losing streak, but can deal a big hit to the Devils’ postseason hopes with a win on Friday. While they have lost four in a row, the Capitals played two of those opponents tough, earning a single point in two of those contests, though they were blown out of the water in their last game against Dallas.

By the end of that contest, Washington was getting booed by the home faithful, giving up a pair of goal in a span of 34 seconds in the second period, then giving up another pair in the third. The skid also marks their longest losing streak since January. That streak reached seven games, with the seventh loss coming in New Jersey.

The Capitals will look to avoid that same fate in this one, and they’ll need to play well on the road going forward, with four of their final six games scheduled to be played away from home.

As for the Devils, they have earned at least a point in their last five contests overall, going 2-0-3 in those contests, including a 2-0-1 mark in their last three games. In their last home game against the Capitals, the Devils came away with a 2-1 victory. Cory Schneider stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced in that game, while Jaromir Jagr chipped in a pair of helpers. In the season series against the Capitals, Jagr leads the Devils with five points, a goal and four assists.

However, it was the Capitals who took the last meeting between these teams on Feb. 8, a 3-0 victory in Washington, in which Braden Holtby stopped each of the 25 shots he faced.

New Jersey has been content to sit back and let their games get into the extra frame so as to ensure themselves at least a point. With a playoff-like atmosphere in this one, we should see a tight-checking, low-scoring contest in which neither side wants to make a mistake.

The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams in New Jersey, and 5-1 in Washington’s last six road games.

The play: Under 5.5
