NHL Playoffs Round 2 Matchups

West – Chicago vs. Vancouver
Anaheim vs. Detroit
East – Carolina vs. Boston
Pittsburgh vs. Washington

The hard-hitting action of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is underway but there’s still time to wager on the series’ winners at betED.com.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks kicked things off Thursday as their Western Conference semifinal got underway on the West Coast.

The Canucks went up 3-0 and then survived a furious third-period comeback by the Blackhawks to win 5-3 and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

NHL Betting Odds have Vancouver as a -210 moneyline favorite to win the series and Chicago a +170 underdog to beat the Canucks in four of the next six possible games.

On Friday, two series get underway, starting with the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings hosting the surging Anaheim Ducks in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series (7 pm ET, VERSUS, CBC).

Detroit is a -280 favorite to win the best-of-seven series while Anaheim is a +230 dog.

Then, the Boston Bruins, the No. 1 seed in the East, battle the Carolina Hurricanes in the opener of their Eastern Conference semifinal (7:30 pm ET, VERSUS, NESN).

Boston is a -230 favorite to win the series. Carolina is a +180 underdog.

And on Saturday, perhaps the most anticipated matchup of the second round gets going as Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals face Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins (1 pm ET, NBC).

Washington is a slight -115 fave while Pittsburgh is at -105 in what is expected to be a long series.

All four series should be good, but I’m focused on the Pittsburgh-Washington series that feature two of the best players in the game in Crosby and Ovechkin. There should be some fireworks in this one.
