Betting NHL Online – Detroit Red Wings at Vancouver Canucks

Starting at 10:00pm EST, the Vancouver Canucks (13-6-2) look for a season-high fourth straight win overall against the dominating Detroit Red Wings (14-2-3). But if Vancouver is to upset the defending champions, they’ll have to do so without their star goaltender Roberto Luongo, who’s been key to the Canucks’ solid play. His absence has made Vancouver the NHL wagering home underdogs priced at +130 (+1½ -230) in the BetUS hockey odds.

The Canucks have won three straight, including a 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh on Saturday to conclude a 3-0-1 road trip. But the win was costly, as Luongo injured his groin early in the first period, on what appeared to be routine save attempt, which proved anything but routine as the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist went down onto the ice in obvious pain.

Curtis Sanford replaced Luongo in net following the injury and made 17 saves on 18 shots, collecting his second straight victory, while improving to 2-1-0 with a 2.46 GAA in four appearances this season. However, he’s struggled against the Wings (-150) with a 1-3-0 record and a 2.91 GAA in five career games.

The Canucks beat the Wings 4-3 in Detroit on Oct. 16, though it was the Wings which handed Vancouver its most recent regulation loss in a 3-2 home loss on Nov. 2.

—Canucks are 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
—Canucks are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.

The reigning Stanley Cup champions continued to dominate on Saturday with a 5-2 victory at Calgary. Ty Conklin made 29 saves on Saturday, but Detroit will most likely put Chris Osgood in net versus the Canucks. Osgood, who has won his last three visits to Vancouver, is 16-4-1 with four ties and a 2.45 GAA in 27 career games against the Canucks.

Key online NHL wagering trends supporting Detroit:

—Red Wings are 8-1 in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
—Red Wings are 60-18 in their last 78 games following a win.
—Red Wings are 38-16-3 in their last 57 Monday games.
—Red Wings are 35-16 in their last 51 road games.
—Red Wings are 42-15 in their last 57 overall.

Analysis: Vancouver’s Pavol Demitra has 10 goals and 24 points in 46 career games against the Wings, Demitra centers a line between brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who have combined for four goals and 10 assists over the last five games. But expect the linemates to struggle versus Detroit, who’s 7-0-1 in November while allowing only 20 goals during the month. Luongo’s absence strengthens the play, and makes the puckline the wise sports betting ice selection.
