Rangers vs. Capitals

The New York Rangers fresh off Thursday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Pittsburgh take on the Washington Capitals and their twelve game home winning streak on Saturday night.

This game should be a highly anticipated matchup, but unfortunately it really isn’t.

The Rangers have been inconsistent all year. Two days after cooling one of the hottest teams in the league with a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators, New York gets outshot 55-16 in their next game against the Penguins. This team is going nowhere fast. They are weak on offense and weak on defense. Outside of Marion Gaborik and Henrik Lundqvist, this team really has nothing. It makes you wonder hoe GM Glen Sather still has a job!

Marion Gaborik is sidelined again with what is believed to be a groin injury suffered at the Olympics and is questionable to play against the Caps. This leaves an already challenged offense looking like Ruprect from “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” – I hope that Henrik Lundqvist has a good sleep and a good pre-game meal.

The Washington Capitals look unstoppable right now. They own the leagues best record (43-13-8), the leagues best offense (4 goals per game), have the best power play in the NHL (25.1% and scoring an average of 1 pp goal per game) and they have the leagues best home record (24-3-3). There is not much else to say but I am going to say it anyway.Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Washington could have gone the rest of the season with the team they had and probably been right there in the end. But the management team detected some weakness and promptly filled those holes at the trade deadline. Scott Walker adds a physical element (and 2 goals in his first game), Eric Belanger wins faceoffs, kills penalties and Joe Corvo moves the puck well for a defenseman and also kills penalties. Team weaknesses are weak no more!

Take a look at what a good General Manager can do, Rangers fans, and then take a look at what Glen Sather has done. Shame!

Ovechkin has not scored in his last five games and you can be sure that he will come out firing against a team that he’s traditionally done very well against. The only real bet here is the spread and the over.
