Bet on NHL Hockey!

While some of the old guard still represents serious threats, some early season favorites have fallen off drastically and can no longer be considered a serious up Contender – ya – I’m talking to you Boston!

So who should we be keeping an eye on as we head into the second half of the season? Which 5 teams are worthy of a wager to win it all? Here is a look at five teams that should contend and the odds that accompany them right now.

I will throw in 1 sleeper – one that you can get at a very favorable price right now.

Chicago Blackhawks 5/1

The preseason faves have been up and down so far this year – seemingly untouchable at times, very beatable at others. The Oilers beat them after all! Chicago has four Western Conference Finals appearances and two Stanley Cup championships in the last six years – they have the experience and the roster to get there again – for sure!

Toews/Kane/Keith/Crawford make them a dangerous team indeed but in the tough West, I just don’t see them being consistent enough.

Anaheim Ducks 15/2

The Ducks have been at or near the top of the NHL overall standings nearly all season long despite mumps outbreaks, injuries to some of their top players and the fact that they play in the toughest Division in hockey. Ryan Kesler has provided this team with some depth down the middle and the play of Frederik Andersen between the pipes has made the Ducks a very good all-around team.

One area of concern is that they have just a +3 goal differential so far – by far the worst of any of the top 11 teams. That said this team is stacked from the goaltender out – they are my pick to win it all!

Pittsburgh Penguins 10/1

Any team that has Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in the lineup absolutely has to be in the conversation. Marc-Andre Fleury has been terrific as well but we all know what happens to him in the playoffs!

Tampa Bay Lightning 10/1

How about the Eastern Conference leading Tampa Bay Lightning? They are the best offensive club in the game so far – 140 goals on the season. Steve Stamkos has been terrific and his supporting cast has more than exceeded expectations. Ben Bishop has been tremendous between the pipes for the club as well.

In a perceived weak Eastern Conference the Lightning could emerge – assuming the clampdown defensive style of the playoffs doesn’t bog them down.

Montreal Canadiens 14/1

The Habs nearly played for a Cup last year and may be better suited this year for a long playoff run. With a healthy Carey Price and a game changer on defense (PK Subban), anything is possible this upcoming season.

Montreal plays in a pretty weak Conference – their path to the Final could be much easier than a few of the teams mentioned ahead of them.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Habs are as complete a team as there is in the East and Carey Price could be the piece that allows them to win it all this year.

Detroit Red Wings 20/1

All the Detroit Red Wings have done is make the playoffs 23 straight years – 23! Injuries cost this team last year but they are healthy so far. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, goaltender Jimmy Howard and a few surprising youngsters make the Wings a dangerous team – perhaps the best value on the board at 20/1.
