The number three seed in the Western Conference will host the number four seed in what is the marquee matchup on a very busy night in the NHL. Phoenix has been on fire lately and are coming off yet another win while the Canucks have hit a bit of a rough patch and are coming off a loss to their nemesis, San Jose on Saturday night.

The Phoenix Coyotes have been the biggest story in the NHL season and have been top notch from their front office to their coaching, to the players on the ice. A recent nine game win streak was snapped but the Coyotes are still 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. They will make the playoffs, likely as the fourth seed out of the West and host their first playoff series in a very, very long time.

The Coyotes were a decent team before the trade deadline but somehow became an excellent team after it. The management team in Phoenix went out and got lesser known players like Wojtek Wolski and Lee Stempniak who stepped in and started contributing to the Coyotes right away.

These two have been held off the score sheet just twice in the twelve games that they have played for Phoenix and have solidified not one, but two of the Coyotes top 2 lines. Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has been superb this season, posting a .921 save percentage and 8 shutouts this season.

The Vancouver Canucks have kept up their strong play this season and despite losing three of their last four games, they appear to have a strangle hold on the third seed in the Western Conference. The goal for the Canucks is to not take the foot off the gas, start a new streak and build some momentum for what is hopefully a long playoff run.

The Canucks have been getting their typical balanced scoring over the past few games – their second and third lines have been contributing on the score sheet as well as their top line. Ryan Kessler and Mason Raymond have been superb all season and their play lately has the Canucks looking like one of the deepest teams in the NHL. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Sedin twins have been the Canucks bread and butter however. Henrik Sedin scored a pair of assists on Saturday to eclipse the 100 point plateau while brother Daniel has six points in his last four games.

The one question mark for the Canucks is the part of their game that was supposed to be the most solid. Goaltender Roberto Luongo is 1-3-1 with a 3.39 goals against average in his last five starts. We all know that defense wins championships – Lou better shake off the cobwebs if the Canucks want to make a run for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Tuesday’s game has the potential to be a dandy. The Coyotes are hot and the Canucks are not. I still like the Canucks to prevail in this one and give their home fans something to cheer about. The Canucks have the ability to get up for the big game and should do so Tuesday night.
