The suddenly competent New York Islanders play host to a Philadelphia team that, despite their recent struggles, is still very much in the hunt for as high as a sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.

But then again, if they continue to struggle, they could finish as low as tenth, out of the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Flyers had a lot of their fans panicking before Sunday’s convincing 5-1 win against the New Jersey Devils. They had lost five straight before that game. There are five teams fighting for three spots in the East and any downturn in any one of the teams’ play could spell doom.

Injuries to Jeff Carter, Kim Jonsson and Michael Leighton still have the Flyers fans sweating.

If there is one thing that the Flyers definitely have going for them is their record against the New York Islanders.

Not only have they won all five games against the Islanders this season, but the Flyers have won fifteen, count ‘em fifteen straight games against the Islanders.

The New York Islanders proved earlier this season that when things are going right for the team and if their confidence level is high, they can be a highly competitive team. A 5-3-2 stretch over their last 10 games furthers this point.

Let’s face it folks, the Islanders are still not a very good team. All they really have going for them is potential. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

John Tavares, Kyle Okposo and Blake Comeau have given the few Isles fans something to look forward to. The future aint now! They need to get bigger, stronger and a little more experienced before they will be taken seriously.

The Philadelphia Flyers have a lot to play for indeed. Other than one win against the Devils on Sunday, their past two weeks has been an unmitigated disaster. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the Flyers. Mike Richards has been invisible and they Flyers will probably be forced to start Brian Boucher in goal.

The Islanders are a respectable 20-14-3 on home ice while the Flyers are a disappointing 16-19-3 on the road. This game has upset written all over it.
