Two playoff bound teams in each of the Conferences square off in Nashville on Tuesday night with the hopes of strengthening their already solid playoff position. Both Philadelphia and Nashville have been playing decent hockey and are both worthy of their current standings in their respective Divisions.

The Philadelphia Flyers currently own the sixth best offense in the NHL and boast the young talents of such players as Jeff Carter, who has been particularly hot as of late, Mike Richards, and Danielle Briere. All of these players have been contributing on offense most of the year but have stepped it up recently. Their improved play has coincided with the Flyers rise in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Flyers are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. They beat a very tough Chicago team last Saturday but then came out flat against the New York Rangers on Sunday. The Flyers will be looking to rebound against a sneaky good Nashville team on the road on Tuesday.

The Nashville Predators are one of those teams that don’t beat you with flash; they beat you with consistency, effort and with their whole team competing each and every night. The Predators only have one 20 goal scorer but have nine players with at least 10 goals. They don’t have a 50 point man, but they have nine players with at least 30. The Preds are a solid bunch that can beat you with all four lines.

Nashville sits in seventh place in the Western Conference and have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games. They are winners of three of their last four games which were all on the road and now they return home for a three game stand where they are just so-so.

Goaltender Pekka Rinne has been superb lately for the Predators and has just been named the NHL’s third star. He will likely get the start on Tuesday and will likely have to be the difference if Nashville hopes to slow down the sixth ranked NHL offense. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Philadelphia and Nashville are very close in the overall standings and should be very close in this game. I’ll take Nashville because of their hot play and because of Phili’s unspectacular 15-16-2 road record. They are a four line team that will give the slightly thinner Flyers fits.

NHL Betting Trends:

Philadelphia is 8-4 SU in its last 12 games
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Nashville’s last 5 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Nashville’s last 5 games when playing at home against Philadelphia
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Nashville
The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Philadelphia’s last 11 games when playing Nashville
The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Nashville’s last 11 games when playing Philadelphia
The total has gone OVER in 10 of Nashville’s last 14 games

Pick: Nashville Predators
