San Jose Sharks @ Chicago Blackhawks

Tonight, 8:00 p.m. ET
Sportsbook odds: Sharks +130, Blackhawks -150

It’s safe to say the allure of Chicago Stadium is alive and kicking in the United Center these days. The Blackhawks’ loud, jammed building is a big reason why they boast a 16-3-1 home record this season. They’re also a pretty good hockey team. The Hawks have cruised during their current homestand, winning four straight and shutting out the opposition in three of those games. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have chipped in consistent if unspectacular scoring for Chicago’s balanced offense and blueliner Duncan Keith is a bona fide Norris Trophy candidate.

Are the Hawks San Jose’s kryptonite? They’ve beaten the Sharks twice already this season and even crushed them 7-2 in San Jose last month. Joe Thornton continues to rack up points and the Sharks constantly beat up on the little guys but, so far this season, they haven’t risen to the occasion at crucial moments.Sports Betting at the Sportsbook Their “big games” so far in December were against Calgary, Los Angeles and Phoenix – and the Sharks lost them all. Playing for the second straight night, the Sharks may get beached.

Pick: Blackhawks -150

Nashville Predators @ Vancouver Canucks

Tonight, 10:30 p.m. ET
Sportsbook odds: Predators +130, Canucks -150

All we can do is shake our heads at those plucky Nashville Predators, who are surprising yet again this season and have one regulation loss in their last 10 games. There’s nothing intimidating about their offense on paper – no one sniffs a point-per-game-pace – but someone different seems to step up every night for the Preds, whether it’s Martin Erat, Steve Sullivan or David Legwand.

The Canucks have been hot/cold of late but they may simply be complacent; they’re playing their seventh of eight straight home games tonight. That much time to relax with your family is great around the holidays but it can seriously dull players’ killer instinct. That probably explains Vancouver’s flat effort in Sunday night’s 3-1 loss to St. Louis.

The Canucks are too good to get caught with their pants down again. Their 20-16-0 record doesn’t look like much but Vancouver has beaten New Jersey, Los Angeles and Washington this month. Henrik and Daniel Sedin are more than justifying their offseason mega-deals, as Henrik is pushing Joe Thornton for the NHL’s scoring lead. Look for Vancouver’s outstanding power play to pick on Nashville’s putrid penalty kill as the Canucks bounce back tonight.

Pick: Canucks -150
