NHL Betting – Monday Night Parlay

Hockey betting fans sure are getting their money’s worth in December. Thanks to the approaching Winter Olympics, NHL teams are laboring through a condensed schedule this month that sees them play 15-plus games. That means we get many nights like tonight, when 22 teams are in action.

Let’s try a two-game parlay for a pair of important Eastern-Conference divisional battles.

New Jersey Devils @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Tonight, 7:35 p.m. ET
Sportsbook odds: Devils +120, Penguins -140

Bettors have a tough decision to make tonight when the Devils visit their Atlantic Division co-leading Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens have been dominant at Mellon Arena, sporting a 12-5-1 record, but the Devils are even better on the road, going 12-2-1 this season.

The sizzling Pens have five straight victories. While Evgeni Malkin hasn’t been his dominant self, he’s opened up space for Sidney Crosby, who is enjoying his best goal-scoring season as a pro based on his pace. Another major reason for Pittsburgh’s hot streak is Marc-Andre Fleury, who has a 2.00 goals against average this month.

There’s one big problem, however; not only are the Devils 2-0 against Pittsburgh this season, they won both those games in Pittsburgh (by a combined score of 8-2). Mellon Arena doesn’t scare Jacques Lemaire’s boys. Naturally, they’re scoring a bit less than they did last year, but Lemaire has them playing the same stingy hockey they did under him in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Martin Brodeur has turned back the clock and the Devils, who haven’t lost a road game in exactly one month, should triumph again.Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Pick: Devils +120

Boston Bruins @ Ottawa Senators

Tonight, 7:35 p.m. ET
Sportsbook odds: Bruins +105, Senators -125

Say what you want about the Senators’ mental toughness but they’re a good hockey team whenever they play in their comfy Scotiabank Place. They’re 13-4-3 there and have won three straight at home. They’re adjusting to life without Jason Spezza but it’s not like the real Jason Spezza showed up for the 2009-10 season anyway. Mike Fisher’s breakout continues as his 15 goals in 33 games have already eclipsed his 2008-09 total of 13.

The Bruins are 2-0 against the Sens this season but Ottawa may be catching them at the right time. The Bruins have lost four straight, including three to teams below them in the standings. They’re also playing their third game in four nights after losing in Chicago on Friday and in Toronto on Saturday. They’re starting to sag, primarily because they’re struggling to score. No Bruin averages a point per game this season, not even Marc Savard, and hockey betting sharps are starting to wonder if Phil Kessel, not Savard, was the offensive catalyst of Boston’s first line last year after all.

You can safely bet under the total in this matchup as the Bruins are one of hockey’s best defensive teams and the Senators aren’t an offensive juggernaut. But go for the hometown Sens in the end, as the Bruins lack confidence and can’t buy a goal right now.

Pick: Senators -125

I’m with you on the Devils as I think they have Pittsburgh’s number so gar this season, but I like the Bruins in your other game.I just cannot see Boston dropping another game as they will right the ship starting tonight.
