Get your programs out people – chances are that you will have a hard time recognizing all of the players suiting up in a game between the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs! Both teams have gotten the ball rolling on revamping their teams and ultimately, despite what Brian Burke says, giving up on any chance of reaching the playoffs this season.

The Ottawa Senators are a much different team than the one that took the ice only a week ago. Gone are Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly, Jarkko Ruutu and now Brian Elliot and in is… the uber-disappointing Craig Anderson. Yup, the last place team in the Eastern Conference has regressed even further!

Ottawa already had the 29th ranked offense in the NHL and without three quality forwards, who knows where the offense is going to come from. Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek have been OK in the last three games, recording four points apiece but it has been unheralded Bobby Butler who scored again on Friday night who has picked up the slack for the departed. Butler now has five points in his last three games.

The Senators traded for Craig Anderson on Friday – he will likely be no help to the league’s 28th ranked defense (3.3 goals allowed per game). Anderson has been brutal this season in Colorado and has a 7.60 goals against average in his last two starts. Expect Anderson to see his first action as a Senator on Saturday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are finally starting to make some noise! But the departure of three of their best players has sent a sign to the rest of the league that the Leafs are ready to mail it in this season. Chris Versteeg, Francois Beauchemin and Thomas Kaberle were front line players who ate up a lot of minutes for the Leafs – their departure leaves a huge hole in the Leafs lineup.

If there is some good news for Toronto, it is the fact that their 27th ranked offense is finally getting some production from Phil Kessel who has three points in his last two games. New arrival Joffrey Lupul also has three points in two games and Mikhail Grabovski has two points in his last two.

Goaltender James Reimer is making a case to be the Leafs goaltender of the future. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.19 goals against average in his last three games on a team that is 24th ranked on defense and gives up an average of 3.0 goals per game.

Betting Prediction: The Ottawa Senators are 9-15-4 on the road this season and are just 2-6 in their last eight trips to Toronto. The Sens are a miserable 19-43 in their last 62 games overall. The Toronto Maple Leafs are 13-11-5 at home this season, are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and are just six points out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

There is not a whole lot to get excited about ahead of Saturday night’s “showdown”. Both teams are bad and both teams are thin based on the flurry of trade activity. Look for the Leafs to beat down an Ottawa team that played last night. Exhaustion is about the only thing that separates these two squads!

Trends:
OTT are 5-16 in their last 21 Sat. games.
Under is 7-3 in OTT last 10 Sat. games.
OTT are 19-44 in their last 63 overall.
Under is 7-2-1 in TOR last 10 Sat. games.
