The Leafs still have a pulse – now they take their show on the road to take on arguably their most hated rival, the Ottawa Senators. Toronto has been one of the better teams in the NHL going 17-7-5 since the All-Star break and winning five of their last six games. The Senators have also been decent despite the lack of any sort of star power on the team – 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.

Toronto will need to win out in order to qualify for the playoffs. After a disheartening 4-2 loss to Detroit last week, doom and gloom set in. But two straight wins against teams ahead of them in the standings, Buffalo and Boston has kept the dream alive.

The Leafs have been good offensively in the last month or so – they have climbed from the cellar of the NHL offensive standings to 23rd in the league. Phil Kessel has been strong and Clark MacArthur and Joffrey Lupul have definitely done their parts.

Make no mistake about it folks, this team is still contending because of one man – NHL Rookie of the Month James Reimer. He is 6-1-0 in his last seven starts with a 2.12 goals against average. Needless to say, the Leafs appear to be in good hands.

The Ottawa Senators got another injury hit on Thursday night – stud Eric Karlsson will join fellow Swede Daniel Alfredsson on the shelf for the rest of the season. Ottawa is going to have to get through its season with a team that resembles their top farm club!

Ottawa’s offense has continued to sputter – the trade deadline decimated this team! Jason Spezza continues to play well recording 13 points in his last 10 games and Marek Svatos is finally starting to pay dividends for the largely unheralded Sens. Strangely, the Sens sent one of their offensive stars from Thursday night Colin Greening back to the minors on Friday! Offense isn’t going to win this game – defense and goaltending are going to have to steal the show!

Craig Anderson has been stellar for Ottawa since coming over from Colorado and has been the reason for the Sens’s late season improvement. In his last four games, Anderson is 3-0-1 with a superb 1.44 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Toronto Maple Leafs are 18-18-3 on the road this season but are an impressive 8-2-2 in their last 12 games away from home. Toronto has won five of six games overall. The Ottawa Senators are 14-19-5 at home this season but they have won three straight on home ice.

It sounds insane but this could be a goaltenders duel. It’s hard not to like the way the Leafs have responded to the criticism and pressure that goes along with playing in the league’s biggest market. The role will continue and the carrot will continued to be dangled in front of Leafs fans. Win on Saturday – yes! Playoffs – no!
