The Toronto Maple Leafs end their Western road trip on Saturday night when they face a team that they have not beaten since 2003. Although the Leafs have went 1-1 in their Alberta portion of their road trip, they will have a difficult time against one of the better home teams in the NHL and one that has won two straight games.

The Maple Leafs started their road trip with a win over the Edmonton Oilers but came up lame in a 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames. Jean-Sebastien Guigere also came up lame, aggravating a groin injury that will keep out of Saturday’s game. Jonas Gustavsson with his 4-9-2 record with a 2.91 goals against average will start.

The Leafs currently have the 3rd worst offense in the league (2.2 goals per game) and the 22nd ranked defense (2.9 goals per game)

The Vancouver Canucks are suddenly in second place in their division and will be looking to extend a two game win streak to keep pace with the Colorado Avalanche. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and are one of the best home teams in the NHL (10-3-2).

The Canucks have the fourth best offense in the NHL (3.2 goals per game) and the seventh best defense (2.6 goals per game). The Sedins have been lighting it up as has Ryan Kessler who has five goals and two assists in his last four games.

The Canucks will start Roberto Luongo is goal. He has won five of his last six games at home and is 5-0-0 in his last five games against Toronto with a 2.22 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Toronto Maple Leafs are 2-6 in their last eight appearances on Hockey Night in Canada while the Canucks are 18-6-3 in their last 27. The Leafs are 16-39 in their last 49 games on the road. Vancouver is 7-0 in their last seven against Toronto and is 7-2 in their last nine overall.

This game is the haves vs. the have nots. It shouldn’t be much of a game at all! With a lack of offense and a backup goaltender, the Leafs will be hard pressed to even keep this game close. Roberto Luongo will shut the door and the Canucks will win again in the building that they call home.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -210 and the Over
