Two teams looking to right the ship meet in a bust night of NHL Betting on Thursday. For the Flyers, the goal is simple – work on the intangibles that had them lose four straight games last week – culminating in a 7-0 loss on National Television to the New York Rangers. Tuesday’s victory over bottom dwelling Edmonton was a good start. For the Leafs, they have to win a good majority of their 16 remaining games in order to qualify for their fist playoffs in seven years. Two losses in a row has the team desperate and in need of a win against the top team in the East.

Philadelphia has gone just 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and even a win on Tuesday didn’t seem to satisfy the group. The team knows that they will have to be better and that momentum going into the playoffs is key.

The Flyers own the 4th best offense in the NHL – 3.2 goals per game. Chris Versteeg has finally started to pay dividends and has recorded three points in three games while Mike Richards has matched Versteeg’s output. Good news for the Flyers came in the form of Jeff Carter’s return from illness. He scored two goals on Tuesday to help the ailing squad.

Sergei Bobrovsky has been the better of the two goaltenders for the Flyers 12th ranked defense but Brian Boucher figures to start based on his 2-0-0 record this season versus the Leafs and his 1.50 goals against average in those games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs need to beat lower echelon teams – a loss to the Islanders on Tuesday dealt a huge blow to the Leafs playoff aspirations. Still, the team has gone an impressive 10-3-5 in their last 18 games and have only lost once in regulation in their last 11 games. Too little too late? We’ll have to see.

Toronto’s 25th ranked offense has been good as of late although Coach Ron Wilson was critical of the team’s top two lines after Tuesday’s loss. Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski each have five points in their last five games and Clarke MacArthur has four points in five. Toronto needs everyone to contribute however – they aren`t that deep.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, Jen Sebastien Guigere will likely start between the pipes after James Reimer appeared to injure his hand in overtime against New York. Guigere is 0-2-0 with a 4.53 goals against average in his last two games.

Betting Prediction: The Philadelphia Flyers are 20-9-3 on the road this season but have lost four of their last five games overall. The Toronto Maple Leafs are 15-12-7 at home this season and are an impressive 10-3-5 in their last 18 games overall.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been their own worst enemy and critic during their slide and they know that they have things to work on before the playoffs. The desire to improve is what sets this team apart. Look for the Flyers to play with passion in hockey’s Mecca, Toronto. The clock has struck midnight on the Cinderella Leafs.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers -145 and the Over – 5.5 goals
