Two teams that are in the middle of the Western Conference dog fight for a playoff position do battle in crucial Monday night game. Calgary sits 10th in the West but is only two points back of the three teams that are tied for fifth – the Kings being one of those teams.

Calgary missed an opportunity on Sunday night to tie for eighth – instead the team that beat them in overtime on Sunday occupies that spot. Every point is crucial for Calgary – they have played at least one more game that all of the teams that they are battling with in the West.

Offensively the Flames have been great. Jarome Iginla has led the way and has four points in his last three games. The emergence of some secondary scoring is also a great sign for the desperate Flames. Tom Kostopoulos has four points in two games Rene Bourque has five points in three games and Curtis Glencross has three points in his last two.

The Flames will need Mikka Kiprusoff to be at his best down the stretch but he certainly wasn’t on Sunday. Kipper is 1-1-0 in his last three starts with a healthy 4.43 goals against average.

The Los Angeles Kings know what it’s like to lose to the Ducks in extra time – the same happened to them on Saturday! Now in sixth place in the West, wins are essential – a loss could take them from sixth to tenth! LA is 5-3-2 in their last 10 games.

LA is certainly one of the bigger NHL Betting underachievers of the season – they are a talent latent squad that has struggled to put it all together. Offensively, they have been just OK – the good news is that Alex Ponikarovsky is starting to produce and Dustin Brown has found his touch yet again to support the always dangerous Anze Kopitar in the offensive zone.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick has been up and down and will likely draw the start on Monday. Hopes are that he can start another Hot streak and carry the Kings down the stretch.

Betting Prediction: The Calgary Flames are a .500 road team this season and the Kings have been good on home ice. However, I like Mikka Kiprusoff to rebound from a brutal outing on Sunday night and stand tall for the Flames. Calgary has been one of the better teams in the NHL since January 1st and I expect them to remain in the hunt right until the bitter end. At +150, take the road squad!

Pick: Calgary Flames +150
