Two of the hottest teams in the NHL go head-to-head on Tuesday night on a heavy NHL Betting schedule. The Capitals have strung together eight straight wins – the most impressive being their 4-3 overtime win over the defending champs on Sunday. The Habs have won six of their last seven games. For Washington, first place in the East is just one win away while for the Canadiens, first place in the Northeast and third place in the Eastern Conference is within their grasp.

Washington is exactly where we all thought that they would be – atop the Eastern Conference standings and beating up on all-takers. Not only have they won eight straight overall but they have won five straight on the road, surrendering only six goals in those contests. The defense and goaltending have been scorching and the offense is finally starting to show glimpses of the team we came to know last season.

Alex Ovechkin his heating up – 17 points in his last 13 games – is it any wonder that the Caps are sizzling? His supporting cast has been good but it has been Ovy and the goaltending that have stolen the show for Washington.

Braden Holtby was called up when Seymon Varlamov hurt his knee. He promptly watched Michael Neuvirth go 4-0-0 with a 1.73 goals against average and then get hurt himself. Holtby has stepped in and has gone 4-0-0 with a 1.05 goals against average. Now all of the goaltenders are healthy – who do they start?

The Montreal Canadiens are not going to roll over for the Caps – they have won six of their last seven games and are in a dogfight with Boston for the Northeast Division lead. For once, Montreal’s offense and defense have been meshing as one and giving the Habs the desired results.

Montreal has scored an amazing 3.24 goals per game in their last seven. Mike Cammalleri has woken up and has three points in three games, Thomas Plekanec has four points in four games and Travis Moen has been a nice surprise with five points in his last five games.

Montreal is all about Carey Price! He has not been letting his team down. In his last six starts, Price is 5-1-0 with a miniscule 1.17 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Washington Capitals are 18-12-3 on the road this season and have won five straight away from home. They are 10-1 in their last 11 games overall. The Montreal Canadiens are 21-8-6 at home this season and have won six of their last seven games overall.

I, like many, have been waiting for the wheels to fall off of the Capitals and Tuesday night might be the time. Montreal’s offense is as good as it has been all season and Carey Price has continued his remarkable run. Pick the home team to cool the Caps off for the time being!

Pick: Montreal Canadiens -120
