The Calgary Flames fight for the playoffs has finally come to an end. Bravo Flames for making a good run when you were left for dead! Although it may seem to be little consolation for the Flames – they do get to take their frustrations out on a team that they simply cannot stand on Saturday night! Sorry Edmonton, but Vancouver has surpassed you as Calgary’s most hated rival.

Vancouver quickly put to rest the notion that they about to embark on a slump. After losing two straight games to the worst team in the NHL – Edmonton, the Canucks came out strong and absolutely manhandled the Wild on Thursday night. Vancouver is as complete a team as there is going not the playoffs. Offense defense and goaltending is absolutely top notch.

Vancouver has a realistic chance of finishing the season with the best goals for, the best goals against, power play and penalty killing in the NHL – nuff said!

A good sign for the Canucks is that they have three lines that appear to be ramping up right now. Ryan Kessler had three goals against Minnesota and Mayson Raymond had two!

Cory Schneider will get the start in goal in search of his 16th win of the season in 22 games. Having a backup with 16 wins and a 2.25 goals against average this season has been a very nice surprise this season for Vancouver.

Calgary will miss the playoffs for the second season in a row despite an exceptionally strong second half of the season. Calgary has gone 5-3-2 in their last 10 games overall, have won three straight and have been playing very well at home as of late.

Calgary’s offense has been led by an absolute tear that Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay have been on. Both have recorded eight points in their last three games while Mikael Backlund has three points in two. Renee Bourque and Curtis Glencross have gone cold however – each has just one point in their last four games.

Mikka Kiprusoff will likely start in goal for the finale and the question begs – could this be Mikka’s last game for the Flames? Probably not – he is 2-0-0 in his last two starts with a 1.00 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Vancouver Canucks are 22-7 in their last 29 games on the road and are 6-1 in their last seven games against the Flames. The Flames will play hard and play with passion but all it is likely to do is to bring the best out in the Canucks.
