Northwest Division rivals Vancouver and Calgary meet on Saturday night in what could be a huge statement game for the Flames. The Canucks are coming of a win over the San Jose Sharks in what was one of the best games of the NHL Betting calendar so far while the Flames are coming off an underwhelming shutout loss against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Vancouver Canucks will finish up a five game road trip on Saturday with designs on returning home with a perfect ten points. Vancouver`s best players, the Sedins appear to have shaken their slump while the defense and goaltending has continued their solid play.

Vancouver is the third best offense in the league. While secondary scoring carried the team last week; this week it has been the Sedins that have shown up and led the way… again! The twins have combined for 14 points during the Canucks four game win streak. With three lines that can score and another that has energy to burn, the Canucks are certainly a hand full.

The Calgary Flames are on fire – duh! They have won eight of their last 11 games and are an impressive 22-7-6 since December 25th.  The Flames have clawed their way up the standings and are rightfully in a Western Conference playoff position – both offense and defense are responsible for the meteoric rise!

Calgary`s offense has gone to a different lever, particularly in their last 11 games when they have averaged a scintillating 3.8 goals. Jarome Iginla has led the way and Curtis Glencross has graduated to a different tier of NHL player in the last month or so. Glencross has five points in his last four games.

When the Flames were struggling, Mikka Kiprisoff was brutal. Since he has turned his season around, so too has his team. Kipper is 8-1-1 in his last 10 starts with an impressive 1.87 goals against average. Against Vancouver however, Kiprisoff has a lifetime goals against average of 3.22.

Betting Prediction: The Vancouver Canucks are 21-9-4 on the road this season and have won their last four away from home. The Calgary Flames are 20-10-4 at home this season and have won ten of their last 14 on home ice.

Look for revenge to be a factor in this game – Calgary got beat 7-2 the last time Vancouver visited the Saddledome. Also, the Vancouver Canucks will likely be a tired bunch on Saturday night especially after their epic battle on Thursday against the Sharks. Exhaustion combined with revenge gives the Flames the edge in this game in my opinion.

Pick: Calgary Flames – even

Jesus the Canucks look really, really good this season. It has to be their year one of these campaigns, doesn’t it?
