The suddenly Hot Flames travel to Vancouver to take on a Canucks team that lost on home ice in regulation for the first time since early December on Thursday night! The Flames could make a huge statement with a win against the league’s best team.

Calgary is the hottest team in the NHL and despite an overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night; the Flames are still one scary team to play against at the moment. Overall, Calgary is 8-0-2 in their last 10 games.

Calgary has been getting better play from one of their controversial offseason offensive acquisitions. Olli Jokinen has silenced his critics in the last few weeks and has six points in his last three games. Jarome Iginla has six points in four games and Curtis Glencross has finally started to live up to the hype in Calgary. When things are going right for the Flames, everybody seems to look good!

Mikka Kiprusoff had a bad game on Friday night, giving up five goals. Those bad outings have been few and far between recently. In the two games prior to Friday, Kiprusoff was 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average. The Flames have climbed to the 17th ranked defensive team in the NHL (2.8 goals per game) behind Kiprusoff’s recent surge.

The Vancouver Canucks are mortal! After a scintillating run of games at home, they finally lost one in regulation to the same team that beat the Flames on Friday night, the Anaheim Ducks. The Canucks are Top 3 in the NHL in both goals against and goals for and are miles ahead of anyone in the Western Conference.

Vancouver has the 2nd best offense in the league with an average of 3.3 goals scored per game. The Sedins have been magic as per usual. But it has been Canucks secondary scoring that has been most impressive lately. Michael Sameulsson has ten points in his last five games and Ryan Kesler has continued his amazing campaign with four points in his last two games. The Canucks will score on Saturday – it is just a matter of how many will be scored against them!

Roberto Luongo rested on Thursday night and is said to be over his bout of the flu. He is 4-0-1 with a goals against average under two in his last five starts and he hasn’t lost in regulation since December. He is the reason that the Canucks have the 3rd ranked defense in the NHL (2.3 goals per game). Dan Hamhuis joins Keith Ballard and Alex Edler on the injured list leaving the Canucks thin on the blue line. However Sammy Salo is expected to make his season debut on Saturday.

Betting Prediction: Roberto Luongo will have to be the difference in this game – the Canucks are ridiculously banged up on the back end. I think Lou responds and keeps the Flames at bay. Those of you expecting to see a dominating performance by the Canucks will likely be disappointed. In a close, high scoring game, I like the Canucks to prevail.
