Canada will get it second outdoor NHL game in eight years on Sunday. The Montreal Canadiens, who participated in the game in 2003, will take on the Calgary Flames in front of 40000 freezing fans at McMahon Stadium with the temperature expected to be anywhere between -10 and -15 degrees Celsius. For the Flames, it shouldn’t be much of a problem – they have been scorching hot but for the Habs, the cool temperature will only serve to match their recent play.

Montreal is coming off a 4-1 loss to the worst team in the NHL – the Edmonton Oilers. They are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games and are just 1-3-2 in their last six. There is good news on the horizon for the Canadiens however – Mike Cammalleri is expected to make his long awaited return from a separated shoulder.

The Canadiens currently own the 25th ranked offense in the NHL, responsible for 2.6 goals per game. The return of Cammalleri will certainly be welcomed by a team that has relied on names like rookie David Desharnais (two goals and five assists in his last six games) Max Pacioretty (12 points in 12 games) and Benoit Pouliot (three points in three games) Cammalleri is the best offensive threat that Montreal has and he brings the best out in slumping players like Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez.

Defensively, the Habs remain in the top10 in the league (8th ranked – 2.5 goals per game).Carey Price will be happy to be away from Edmonton where he is now 0-3-0 with a goals against above 4.00. Overall, he is 1-1-1 in his last three starts with a 1.63 goals against average.

The Calgary Flames continue to be one of the hottest teams in the NHL but unlike a few days ago, they are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. It is a huge two points at stake for the Flames who are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games and are 16-4-5 in their last 25.

Calgary has climbed up the offensive rankings in the NHL – they now sit 9th with an average of 2.9 goals per game. Jarome Iginla has led the way with three goals and six assists in his last seven games, Olli Jokinen has four goals and seven assists in six games and David Moss and Renee Bourque have recorded four points in their last two games. All is well in Flames-land!

The Flames have also ascended up the defensive rankings in the NHL, now allowing 2.8 goals per game. Mikka Kiprusoff looks like a different player than the one that we saw in the first half of the season. In his last two starts, Kipper has a 2-0-0 record with a 1.59 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Montreal Canadiens are 12-14-1 on the road this season and are 1-3-2 in their last six games overall. The Calgary Flames are 17-9-3 at home this season and are 10-3 in their last 13 games overall.

Although this is a home game for the Flames, McMahon Stadium is as foreign to them as it is the Montreal Canadiens. Still, the Flames have been getting it done in every building with everyone on their roster.  40000 rabid fans will certainly do their job on Sunday and I think that the Flames will too!

– Home team is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings.
– Over is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings in Calgary.
– Over is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings.
– Canadiens are 0-4 in the last four meetings in Calgary.
– The last five outdoor NHL games (four Winter Classics, one Heritage Classic) and boast and average total of 5.4 goals.

Pick: Calgary Flames -145
