Has anyone seen the real Los Angeles Kings? If there is any team in the NHL that is in desperate need of a shakeup, it is the Kings! On Monday night, the offensively challenged Kings take on the best goals against average team in the NHL – the Boston Bruins.
Boston has kept plugging along this season and is full marks for their position in the Eastern Conference standings. The Bruins are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and are coming off an impressive 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
Boston, despite the scoring woes of some of their top players (David Krejci – 0 goals in 18 games and Nathan Horton – 1 goal in 18 games) has the sixth best offense in the NHL averaging 3.1 goals per game.
This was not expected from this club in the least! Brad Marchand has five goals and four assists in his last nine games, Mark Recchi has five points in three games and Patrice Bergeron has been steady recording 14 points in nine. Thriving offensively without your top line contributing is a good sign for the Bruins who traditionally have been an average offensive club.
The Bruins are all about Tim Thomas who figures to start on Monday. He is 8-0-2 in his last 10 games and is 3-0-0 with a miniscule 1.33 goals against average in his last three games.
The Los Angeles Kings have been awful as of late and have really struggled to score goals. They are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games and surprisingly sit only four points out of eighth place in the Western Conference. The Kings have been bad on offense and their defense has been brutal as well.
Los Angeles had been Top 10 in the NHL in offense almost all season before a rough patch had them slip to 14th (2.8 goals per game). Nobody is lighting it up for the Kings but there are plenty stinking it up. Michael Handzus is pointless in five games and Alexei Ponakarovski and Dustin Brown are pointless in four!
How ‘bout some goaltending? Jonathan Quick has won only two of his last nine starts and has posted a 3.29 goals against average over that span. However, Quick is 4-0 in his last four starts against the Bruins.
Betting Prediction: The Boston Bruins are 15-5-4 on the road this season and are 6-2 in their last eight games overall. The Los Angeles Kings are 15-9-1 at home this season but are just 2-7 in their last nine on home ice. The Kings are 3-10 in their last 13 games overall.
The Kings can’t score goals at the moment and the Bruins don’t let any goals in. This pick is easy based on that fact. Take the road team in a low scoring game.
