ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Rangers have been the better team in all five games of the series thus far but have lost 11 straight games in which they had a series lead. It’s put up or shut up time for the underwhelming Flyers!

The New York Rangers have been getting it done in both ends of the rink in this series – they haven’t allowed the Flyers much in the way of offense and they have been converting on a good portion of their chances.

The Rangers have outscored the Flyers 15-10 in the series, they have blocked 90 shots and they have surrendered just 24 shots per game so far – a good recipe for success indeed!

Simply put New York deserves a better fate than a Game 6 matchup Tuesday night.

Henrik Lundqvist is a luxury that the Philadelphia Flyers continue to search for. He has been typically solid in the series – a 1.81 GAA and .926 save percentage. On the rare occasion that a shot is getting through to the Rangers net King Henrik has been there to slam the door.

Martin St. Louis is paying dividends for the Rangers – exactly what they expected when they traded for him. St. Louis has two goals and four assists in the series while the other veterans on the team have also played well – Brad Richards has two goals and three assists and Rick Nash has four assists. A goal from Nash would be nice however- in 17 playoff games with the New York Rangers, he has just one goal. If anyone is due its Nash!

The Philadelphia Flyers absolutely have to be better or face an early exit this season. Offensively the Flyers have gone cold – they have scored more than two goals just once in the series so far. Philadelphia’s leading scorers Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux each have three points in the series – eight Rangers have at least three points thus far – a telling stat.

The Flyers haven’t looked dangerous all series long – disappointing.

Goaltending continues to be the Flyers’ Achilles Heel. Steve Mason made 37 saves in Game 4 – and the Flyers won.

He stopped only 18 of 21 shots in Game 5 – the Flyers lost – not sure what to make of Mason heading into Tuesday night. Philadelphia’s defense isn’t offering a ton of support though – they are allowing 30.4 shots per game and are leaving their keeper out to dry more than they care to.

A few trends to consider:
• NYR are 7-2 in their last 9 vs. Metropolitan.
• Under is 6-2-4 in NYR last 12 overall.
• Under is 5-2-3 in NYR last 10 vs. Metropolitan.
• PHI are 9-3 in their last 12 Tue. games.
• Over is 16-6-4 in PHI last 26 vs. Metropolitan.
• Over is 37-17-6 in PHI last 60 overall.
• Home team is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
• NYR are 16-6 in the last 22 meetings.

The Flyers are no strangers to being down in the series and they have traditionally done very well on home ice. That said the Rangers are beating the Flyers in every aspect of the game right now – offensively the Flyers aren’t generating anything and defensively they are far too generous.

New York is on a roll – prime to advance to the second round.

Pick: New York Rangers -105
