The Ducks enter the game on an impressive six game win streak after outclassing the Canucks on Tuesday night while the Sharks will play their first post All-Star game looking to build on a 3-1-1 stretch.

The Anaheim Ducks sit atop the NHL Overall standings for a reason – they are darn good. They have won six straight games ahead of Thursday night’s clash and have outscored their opponents 25-10 over that span.

Although middle of the pack in almost all statistical categories, the Ducks have been asserting themselves in both ends of the rink as of late – Frederik Andersen has been remarkable between the pipes and the offense has been very good as well.

For the Sharks to beat the Ducks Thursday, they are going to have to penetrate a defense that shut out Vancouver on Tuesday and allowed just 17 shots on goal. Frederik Andersen, the likely starting keeper was in goal for that game and is now an incredible 17-2-1 in his last 20 games with a GAA around 2.20. Andersen has struggled versus the Sharks however – he is 1-5-0 with a 3.52 GAA.

The d-men in front of Andersen have been doing their jobs lately during a personal seven game win streak and the penalty kill been successful 18 of the last 20 shorthanded opportunities against.

Offensively for the Ducks, Tuesday was a rare night in which Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf were both held off the score sheet. Expect much better things Thursday for sure. Perry now has four goals and four assists in his last five games, Getzlaf has five points in his last five games, Patrick Maroon has six points in four games and a host of Ducks have been averaging a point per game in their last three.

Anaheim is about as tough as they come in both ends of the rink right no – to all of their opposition’s chagrin!

The San Jose Sharks snapped a bit of a funk before the All-Star break going 3-1-1 in five games but are still just 6-6-2 in their last 14 games – 14 points back of the Ducks in the Pacific.

The recent problem for the Ducks has been defense – goals against specifically. They have allowed 3.21 goals per game in their last 14 – not nearly good enough for a team that fancies themselves a contender this year.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Annti Niemi will likely get the call between the pipes Thursday – he is just 5-4-2 in his last 11 games with a 2.92 GAA, although he has won three of his last four starts overall. Niemi has won six straight home games against Anaheim with a terrific 1.95 GAA.

Offensively the Sharks don’t quite look the same either. They are averaging 2.69 goals per game – middle of the pack in the NHL. There are a number of Sharks that have had more than their share of success against Anaheim however – Joe Pavelski had two goals in the latest meeting with the Ducks – a 3-0 road win Dec. 31 and has scored five times during a four-game goal streak in the series and has points in eight straight meetings. Logan Couture recorded a goal and an assist New Year’s Eve to give him 13 points in his last 10 against the Ducks.

NHL Gambling Trends

• ANA are 21-7 in their last 28 overall.
• ANA are 7-3 in their last 10 road games.
• SJ are 58-27 in their last 85 home games.
• Home team is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings.
• ANA are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings.

The Sharks have won the last six meetings in San Jose and have taken three of four overall matchups this season – amazing considering that the Ducks have just 10 losses all season!

But the Anaheim Ducks are simply on a different level right now and despite their struggles against the Sharks, particularly in Anaheim I think they get it done.

Anaheim Ducks +100

There isn’t any aspect of the Ducks game that can be criticized – the same can’t be said for San Jose!
