Philadelphia started the season ice cold but they’ve turned things around in a big way recently. The team has won back-to-back games and six of seven, and they’ve been even better at home, winning nine in a row in their own building. The team returns home for this one after a lengthy six-game road trip and will play two in a row at home.

The Flyers’ last game ended in dramatic fashion when the team beat the Devils in overtime on a goal by Brayden Schenn, 3-2.

Schenn scored the game winner 1:50 into the extra session on Tuesday night after leaving the game earlier after suffering a cut across his stomach from a skate, but returned in time to clinch the win for the Flyers. Captain Claude Giroux enjoyed a solid game as well after having been snubbed from a selection to Canada’s Olympic hockey team earlier in the day. Giroux scored the team’s first goal on the power play in the third period. Philadelphia’s three goals were scored by Giroux, Scott Hartnell, and Schenn, each of whom has now scored in consecutive games.

Goaltender Ray Emery stood on his head for the Flyers, stopping 31 of 33 shots in the win. Top goaltender Steve Mason is expected back between the pipes for Philadelphia on Wednesday, and will enter having won six of his last seven starts. Mason has also been solid against the Canadiens in his career, posting a 2-0-0 record against them with a 1.92 GAA, even having picked up the win against them earlier this season on Dec. 12.

Now the team gets a Canadiens squad that hasn’t enjoyed the trip down to Philadelphia. Montreal has dropped nine in a row there. Goaltender Carey Price is 1-5-0 with a 3.58 GAA against the Flyers since Nov. 5, 2011, with that lone win coming in Montreal. Price has dropped his last six starts in Philadelphia.

The team will need forward David Desharnais to continue his hot scoring. Desharnais has six points in his last four games. Forward Max Pacioretty has been scoring at a tepid pace of late as well, notching seven points in his last four contests, and has scored six points in his last four against the Flyers.

Philadelphia has dominated this series in recent years and there’s no reason to expect any different on this night.

The Flyers are 9-0 in their last nine home games.

The Flyers are 5-0 in their last five games when playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

The play: Philadelphia -117
