ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Montreal did its part on home ice in Game 6 beating down the Bruins 4-0 – now it is up to the Bruins to hold serve in order to advance to the Eastern Conference Final. The teams have met eight previous times in a Game 7, with Montreal winning five.

The Montreal Canadiens ride the wave of momentum into Wednesday night’s deciding game – not only did Carey Price post a shutout in Game 6 but two of the struggling superstars on the team got off the schnide and were difference makers. Thomas Vanek scored twice in Game 6 and has four goals in the series. Forward Max Pacioretty scored his first goal of the series in Game 6 and added an assist in the win.

There are a number of guys still struggling on the Habs roster however – Brian Gionta and Rene Bourque are pointless in five games and Brenden Gallagher has just one point in his last four games.

Carey Price continues to outplay Tuukka Rask – he could realistically be the difference between winning and losing this series. Price is 1-2-0 in his last three starts with a very good 1.69 GAA and .945 save percentage while Rask is 1-1-0 in his last two games with a 3.00 GAA and .898 save percentage.

Not only has Rask been a tad underwhelming but a look at Boston’s “Not Hot List” is reason for concern for Bruins fans. Jarome Iginla has two points in the series, Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand are pointless in their last three games and Reilly Smith and Dougie Hamilton each have just one point in their last four games. Boston didn’t generate a whole lot in Game 6 – it may have been the pro-Habs crowd or it may be the Montreal game – but the talented Bruins didn’t look great on Monday night.

Boston has been taken out of their game in their losses – that’s been their problem. Discipline and adherence to their balanced attack should be enough for the Bruins team – Boston won the President’s trophy for a reason.

Montreal has been Boston’s kryptonite the last couple of seasons and the Habs did win Game 1 at the Garden – interesting indeed!

A few trends to consider:
• Over is 8-2-2 in MON last 12 vs. Atlantic.
• MON are 17-5 in their last 22 vs. Atlantic.
• Over is 6-2-2 in MON last 10 overall.
• BOS are 42-14 in their last 56 home games.
• Over is 16-6-3 in BOS last 25 Wed. games.
• Over is 5-2-1 in BOS last 8 overall.
• MON are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings.

Boston’s game is consistency – something that we haven’t seen so far in the series. They didn’t look great in Game 6 folks! The bulk of the pressure will be on the Bruins in Game 7 – Montreal has little or nothing to lose. Although the Bruins have played their fair share of Game 7s over the last couple of seasons I think the pressure gets to Boston and the care free Canadiens eliminate the Stanley Cup favorites.

Pick: Montreal Canadiens +152
