ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Hockey has a funny way of evening itself out however and the Rangers hope to catch a break or two Monday night in front of what is sure to be an amped home town crowd in Game 3.

The Los Angeles Kings just keep tempting fate in the playoffs but have gotten away with it thus far. In the two games so far in the Final they have yet to lead for one minute! They erased a two goal lead in Game 1 and were two goals down on three separate occasions in Game 3 before ending both games in overtime.

Poor starts to Games 1 and two have almost led to the Kings’ demise thus far – it isn’t lost on this team the importance of getting off to a better start. The Rangers offense continues to shine – they have scored eight goals in two games on Henrik Lundqvist in the Final – just above their postseason average.

Eight different players have found the back of the net for Los Angeles which speaks to the depth that the Rangers simply don’t have.

Other than slow starts, the Kings have to be a tad concerned about the play of Jonathan Quick. He has been OK but far from the Conn Smyth winning form that won the Kings the Cup in 2012.

The New York Rangers have done some good things in this series – a bounce or two and they may be even right now. But New York has to erase the memory of some questionable calls against them and has to focus on the task at hand.

The Rangers absolutely need Henrik Lundqvist to be their best player. Unfortunately for them, he simply hasn’t been through their first two games of the Final.
[ad-4437448]
Lundqvist has struggled – he had a 2.04 GAA in the first three rounds after three rounds and a .928 save percentage but against LA his goals against average is a pedestrian 3.11 and his save percentage is a very average .908.

Sure he may have been interfered with on the Kings third goal in Game 2, but King Henrik clearly hasn’t been himself thus far.

New York, outside of one period in which they were outshot 20-3 has been good offensively. They have six goals in the series thus far and possess perhaps the best player so far in the first two games – Chris Kreider.

New York’s speed has been very evident thus far – the Kings don’t seem to have much of an answer when the Rangers are moving their feet and utilizing their quickness.

A few trends to consider:
• LA are 8-0 in their last 8 vs. Metropolitan.
• LA are 22-7 in their last 29 games following a win.
• Over is 3-1-4 in LA last 8 Mon. games.
• Under is 18-7-5 in NYR last 30 home games.
• Under is 42-20-8 in NYR last 70 Mon. games.
• Home team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

The Kings have won seven straight series in which they have taken a 2-0 series lead. Los Angeles has also been very good on the road so far this postseason – they have won three Game 7s in enemy buildings and seem to bring their A-Game the higher the stakes and the more hostile the crowd.

But the Hockey Gods work in strange and mysterious ways – it is hard to think that the New York Rangers won’t catch a break or two in the not-too-distant future.

The breaks should result in a Rangers win Monday as their home town crowd allows them to hold a lead for once.

The Kings have been playing with fire – on Monday night, they get burned.

Pick: New York Rangers -123
