If the current form of each side isn’t enough, the Sharks also get this game at home where they are 19-2-3 on the season. Los Angeles is looking to avoid its first six-game losing streak since 2007, while San Jose hopes to win seven games in a row for the first time since Mar. 25 to Apr. 5 of 2013.

The Sharks will get a little added motivation in this one after a controversial play in the last meeting between these teams. Kings captain Dustin Brown was kicked out of the game on Dec. 19 after a knee-on-knee collision with Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl. Hertl then underwent surgery and has yet to return to action since.

The team’s top performers have picked up the scoring slack. Joe Pavelski has seven goals and three assists over the course of a five-game point streak, while Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau combined to score all three goals in a 3-2 over Minnesota on Saturday not long after signing three-year extensions.

Los Angeles’s last game wasn’t quite as memorable as the team put up a lousy effort in an outdoor game, losing to Anaheim 3-0 on a night in which they just had no answer for Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller. After being shut out in that one, Los Angeles hasn’t scored in five consecutive periods of action.

Scoring could be hard to come by again for the Kings as they haven’t scored in 11 consecutive power play opportunities, and the Sharks haven’t allowed a power play goal in their last seven home games, killing off all 16 short handed situations.

That poor offensive play has wasted some good performances by goaltender Jonathan Quick who has surrendered nine goals in his last four games and is 0-3-1 in those contests.

Back to Brown, who will be a big focus of this game, the Kings captain has only three goals and one assist since that Dec. 19 contest, and hasn’t recorded a point in his last six games.

Home ice has meant everything in this series as the home team has won each of the last 15 meetings between these squads. Factoring in the current form of both teams and that fact that the home team has won each of the last 15 meetings in the series, it’s hard to make a case for Los Angeles on this night.

The Kings are 0-5-4 in their last nine trips to San Jose.

The play: San Jose -156
