ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Kings used a decent offensive output and a predictably stingy defense in their series with the Sharks while the Ducks utilized their high-powered offense to push aside the Stars. It will be offense vs. defense in Game 1 Saturday night in the opener of what has all the makings of a classic series.

The LA Kings enter the second round hot – in every aspect of their game. A subtle tweak by the coaching staff has ignited what was a sketchy offense. Anze Kopitar finished the first round with four goals and seven points in the four wins – he and Justin Williams were the best forwards for LA in the series.

Williams and Dustin Brown have four points in two games, Tyler Toffoli has five points in five games, Marian Gaborik has five points in five games and Drew Doughty has three points in the last two games – good numbers heading into Game 1.

And then there is Jonathan Quick. He has been sensational since an unflattering first three games against San Jose. He was 3-0-0 with a 0.67 GAA and .979 save percentage in the last three games against the Sharks – incredible.

The Anaheim Ducks goaltending situation was exposed a little bit in the first round against Dallas – Frederik Andersen went 1-1-0 with a 4.32 GAA and .863 save percentage in his last three starts. Will it be Andersen or Jonas Hiller, who the team doesn’t seem to trust after a brutal stretch run for the Ducks keeper.

The Kings are clicking offensively – the goaltending could be exposed again!

There should be no worries about Anaheim’s offense heading into Game 1 – the only question is if they can beat a red-hot Jonathan Quick.

Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had seven points against Dallas – Getzlaf missed one game with an upper body injury.

Anaheim scored 21 goals in the series and seemingly everybody got in on the act. Teemu Selanne had two points in the last two games, Patrick Maroon and Andrew Cogliano had three points in three games and the defense was active all series long in the offensive zone.

A few trends to consider:
• Over is 6-1-1 in LA last 8 overall.
• Over is 6-1-1 in LA last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 6-1-1 in LA last 8 vs. Western Conference.
• ANA are 22-7 in their last 29 vs. Pacific.
• ANA are 19-7 in their last 26 Sat. games.
• ANA are 50-21 in their last 71 home games.

The Los Angeles Kings look eerily similar to the team that destroyed everyone la few years ago on their romp to the cup. The Kings are the quintessential playoff team – zero holes. I like them to flex their muscle early in the series and let the Ducks know what they are in for!

Pick: Los Angeles Kings +119
