The number eight and the number two offenses in the NHL meet in Chicago on Monday night in what should be a highly entertaining game between two of the younger teams in the league.

The Los Angeles Kings have exceeded expectations this year and currently sit in fifth place in the Western Conference. The Kings are only two points out of third place in the West! Drew Doughty has become an elite defenseman and is considered the future of the NHL as far as defensemen go and Anze Kopitar is on the verge of becoming a house hold name. The Kings have an experienced squad with the signing of Ryan Smyth in the off season and the acquisition of Jeff Halpern and Fredrik Modin at the trade deadline.

Los Angeles has been playing very well of late, going 12-4 in their last 16 games and winning 8 of their last 10 road games. They shut out a reeling Columbus team on Monday and will be looking to build on that win. The Kings are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a win.

The Los Angeles Kings are a good all around team who have a great defence, a top tier offense and a solid goaltender in Jonathan Quick. A game against the third overall team in the NHL will be a good test for the young Kings. They should be competitive, but winning in Chicago is a tall task for anyone.

The Chicago Blackhawks have simply been incredible this season and have emerged as a legitimate threat to win Lord Stanley’s Cup. They boast an amazing defence that is able to provide offense while at the same time protecting their own zone. Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook are a defensive nucleus that is the envy of every NHL team. Young stars on offense like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews compliment their offensive defensemen incredibly well and have made the Hawks one of the two most explosive clubs in the NHL. Cristobal Huet is adequate in goal and only has to be solid, not spectacular in order for the Hawks to win.

Chicago has a 2-2 record since the Olympic break and are coming off an emotional loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. They are 25-7-2 overall at home and have a 37-14 home record in their last 51 games. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Chicago is rolling and will be looking to take the frustrations on Sunday’s loss out on the Kings on Wednesday night. They should be able to get it done on home ice. The Under is 15-5 in the teams’ last 20 meetings between the teams in Chicago, but with two of the top eight offensive teams in the NHL going head to head, you have to think that the total will be challenged.

NHL Betting Trends:

Los Angeles is 12-4 SU in its last 16 games
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Chicago’s last 5 games
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Chicago’s last 5 games at home
Chicago is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Los Angeles’s last 5 games
Los Angeles is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Los Angeles’s last 10 games when playing on the road against Chicago
Chicago is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Los Angeles

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks and the over
