The offenses for each team has sparkled so far this season – San Jose and St. Louis are first and second in the league with 4.80 and 4.75 goals per game, respectively. Surprisingly the Over/Under for this game is 5 goals.

As mentioned the San Jose offense has been on a tear this year. Not only are they scoring, but they are generating plenty of chances – the Sharks are averaging a staggering 42.4 shots per game. Super Rookie Roman Hertl has seven goals already and despite getting banged up last time out should play. Brent Burns, Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski each have six points apiece for an offense that has shown no signs of slowing down.

It hasn’t just been the offense that has clicked for San Jose. The team is giving up just 1.4 goals per game while the offense is scoring 4.8. Antti Niemi has been as solid as they come and has continued his strong play from last year. [ad-4437448]

The Blues offense has been terrific as well this year – 4.75 goals per game but their defense has also been terrific all season long. Jaroslav Halak has a .934 save percentage this season and has a 1.75 GAA – three goals per game less than the offense is scoring. Halak has been good against San Jose in the past as well – 4-2-0 with a 2.29 goals-against average and two shutouts in seven starts.

Offensively it has been the David Backes, Alexander Steen and T.J. Oshie show for St. Louis – they have been one of the best lines in hockey the first two weeks of the season. The team is clicking at a stunning rate on the power play as well – 37.5% (6 for 16) so far this young season.

NHL Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 7-0-1 in SJ last 8 vs. Western Conference.
• Under is 8-1-1 in SJ last 10 overall.
• SJ are 7-20 in their last 27 vs. Central.
• Under is 6-1-1 in STL last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 21-5-3 in STL last 29 Tue. games.
• Under is 10-3-2 in STL last 15 home games.
• Under is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings.

The Blues have won six of their last seven meetings with the Sharks and are absolutely on fire right now. Add in the fact that the Sharks are a completely different team on the road than they are at home and this has all the makings of a Blues win. But in this case – I’m looking at the Total – the teams have combined for an average of 9.5 goals per game so far this young season and the Total is set at 5.

Pick: Play the Over – 5 goals
