Red Wings vs Ducks NHL Spread/Handicapping

Headline:Duck Look to Keep Roll Going Versus Visiting Wings

The Anaheim Ducks will look to continue their assault on top spot in the NHL Friday when they host the Detroit Red Wings for the first of two meetings between the clubs in three days. Not that they really need it but Corey Perry will be back in the lineup Friday after serving his four game suspension – the Ducks went 3-0-1 in his absence and are now a staggering 15-1-3 in their last 19 games.

The Wings are coming off a 4-2 home loss at the hands of the Minnesota Wild and will be looking for their third straight road victory as they open up a four game road trip Friday.

The Red Wings looked like they had turned things around after an average first half of the season but they were beaten by a pretty hot Wild team last time out. If they the Wild were hot, look no further than the Ducks who have earned at least a point in 12 straight games and have won 14 straight on home ice.

Detroit’s offense continues to be average. Star forward Pavel Datsyuk has six points in his previous five games, and while he has just one goal in 14 games, he’s chipped in with 12 assists. Datsyuk was held without a point Wednesday, but has one goal and four assists in the last three road games. He has two goals and four assists in his last five at Anaheim. Johan Franzen, Niklas Kronwall, Valtteri Filppula and Justin Abdelkader have each averaged a point in their last three games.

The Wings have been average defensively as well this season allowing an average of 2.57 goals per game. Jimmy Howard had been solid but is 1-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA and unflattering .889 save % age in his last two games.

What can we say about the Ducks? They sit just three points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for first overall in the NHL – leaps and bounds ahead of the next best team in the league. They average 3.24 goals for per game and they are surrendering an average of just 2.34 goals per game – unreal!

Offensively, the Ducks are stacked – everyone in the lineup seems to be chipping in. Ryan Getzlaf has back-to-back two-point games, and 13 points in nine entering Friday. He has seven goals with 15 assists during a 12-game home points streak.[ad-4437448]

Daniel Winnik has three points in two games, Bobby Ryan, Kyle Palmieri, Emerson Etem and Francois Beauchemin each have two points in two games and Bryan Allen has two points in three games. Ya, the Ducks are on fire and everyone is getting into the action. Did I mention that they get Cory Perry back Friday to boot?

It doesn’t matter who Anaheim starts between the pipes – they are in good hands. Jonas Hiller has a 2.12 goals-against average during a seven-game home winning streak. He snapped a five-game skid to Detroit with 23 saves in a 4-0 home win March 14, 2012. Rookie Viktor Fasth, 6-0-0 with a 1.32 GAA at home, made 26 saves at Detroit last month.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 12-3-2 in DET last 17 vs. Pacific.
• DET are 14-5 in their last 19 Fri. games.
• DET are 8-20 in their last 28 road games.
• Under is 9-2-1 in ANA last 12 Fri. games.
• ANA are 13-3 in their last 16 vs. Central.
• ANA are 21-6 in their last 27 home games.
• Under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.
• Home team is 38-14-1 in the last 53 meetings.

The Detroit Red Wings are a slightly above average team but it seems that it will take more than a slightly above average team to derail Anaheim at this point of the season. The Ducks are shooting for their 15th straight win on home ice Friday and the return of Cory Perry should make it a surprisingly easy task. If the Ducks can make the Hawks look ordinary, they should be able to do the same to the Wings.

Pick: Anaheim Ducks -157
