For the Rangers Saturday marks the end of an ugly nine game road trip to start the season as MSG went through some major renovations.

Carl Hagelin (shoulder), Ryan Callahan (broken thumb) and Rick Nash (head) are all out for the Rangers – part of the reason that the team has struggled this year. New York is averaging just 1.50 goals per game and is among the worst offenses in the NHL so far. A good example is their last two games which have come against division rivals – the pitiful Devils and the equally poor Philadelphia Flyers.

The Rangers lost both and scored a total of just one goal in those games. Brad Richards is the hottest Ranger – five points in his last four games. He leads the Rangers with eight points.

Defensively the Rangers have been a bit of a mess as well. They have given up an astounding 3.88 goals per game and Henrik Lundqvist who missed Thursday night`s game has a 3.45 GAA this year – almost unfathomable!

The Detroit Red Wings just keep clicking along – a move to the East hasn`t seen them miss a beat. They enter Saturday`s game on a three game losing streak however – balance on offense has been an issue so far. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have accounted for 11 of-Detroit’s 25 goals forcing Mike Babcock to split the pair up looking to become more than a one line team. [ad-4437448]

Overall the Wings have had an OK offense so far – 2.27 goals per game but only six have four points or more – Zetterberg has 12 and Datsyuk has 11. Todd Bertuzzi has been heating up – two goals in his past three games and Henrik Zetterberg has nine points in his past seven games.

Defensively the Wings have been middle of the pack just like the offense. Jimmy Howard should get he start Thursday. He has a 2.60 GAA and .914 save percentage while his backup has Jonas Gustavsson has a 2.12 GAA and .937 save percentage.

NHL Betting Prediction

:

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 41-12-11 in NYR last 64 Sat. games.
• NYR are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
• NYR are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.
• Over is 5-2-1 in DET last 8 overall.
• Under is 7-3-2 in DET last 12 Sat. games.
• DET are 359-162-16 in their last 537 home games.
• NYR are 3-14 in the last 17 meetings.
• Home team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

The Rangers are an exhausted bunch – a nine game road trip is certainly unenviable. The Wings will be looking to bounce back into the win column Saturday and should be able to get it done against a shorthanded, unflattering, road weary Rangers.

New York has scored just once in their last two games – not nearly good enough! MSG will be a welcome sight for one of the biggest disappointments in the NHL so far – expect the Rangers to be looking past the Wings in anticipation of finally returning home.

Pick: Detroit Red Wings
