Rangers vs Canadiens NHL Spread/Handicapping
Slumping Rangers Take on Old Nemesis Montreal Saturday Night
To say that the New York Rangers have been awful lately would be an understatement – 3-5-1- in their past nine games and clinging onto a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Now they head into Montreal against the Canadiens who won the first two meetings this season by a combined 6-1 score.

The Canadiens have won seven in a row against the Rangers at Bell Centre and are 9-0-1 in New York’s last 10 visits. Do I like New York’s chances Saturday let’s take a look.

Absolutely nothing is going right for the Rangers lately. Excluding the Flyers game that the Rangers won 5-2 they have totaled 10 goals in their past eight contests. Their 78 goals are the fewest in the NHL. They’ve gone 2 for their last 21 on the power play and rank near the bottom of the NHL at 14.6 percent. Marion Gaborik has just one goal in his last 11 games – this team is a mess.
Martin Biron is expected to start in goal for the Rangers Saturday – it will give Henrik Lundqvist a well deserved night off. Biron has a 2.17 GAA and .923 save % age this year – surprisingly similar numbers Lundqvist!
On the flip side, the Canadiens will go back to Carey Price in goal after he was pulled during a come-from-behind 6-5 shootout win in Boston on Wednesday. He will be keen to erase the memory of his last outing – and he owns the Rangers.[ad-4437448]
Offensively the Habs continue to be very good – top third in the NHL and averaging 3.06 goals per game. Montreal left wing Michael Ryder 12 points in 10 games and PK Subban is chipping in and has 13 points in 11 games. Tomas Plekanec had a season-high three assists in Boston on Wednesday. Things are good in Montreal!

The Montreal Canadiens are legit folks – there is no denying it. Their win against Boston last time out with first place in the Northeast on the line has me convinced. They are contenders while the Rangers – they are clearly pretenders! The dominance continues Saturday night.
Pick: Montreal Canadiens -152
