The Flyers and the Rangers have had their share of injuries so far this year but enter Tuesday’s clash relatively healthy – no excuses for either in this important mid-season clash.

The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have turned a corner that saw them start 6-9-1 this season. In their last seven games they are 5-2-0 and they can thank some overdue goaltending for the recent uptick in their play. The return of Scott Hartnell to the lineup and the acquisition of consummate pro Simon Gagne haven’t hurt their cause either.

The Flyers are one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL – they give up an average of 2.87 goals per game. But Ilya Bryzgalov has stopped 56 of 58 shots over his past two games, a .966 save % and a 1.00 GAA, both victories – a welcome sight for Flyers fans. If the Flyers can play just average defense, the offense should be able to keep them in most games.

Philadelphia averages 2.87 goals per game – the offense clearly isn’t the issue for this club. Jacob Voracek has 14 points in his last seven games, Wayne Simmons has eight points in six games and Scott Hartnell has three points in his last three games. Philadelphia can score goals but they will have their mits full with Henrik Lundqvist and the boys.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

The New York Rangers, like the Flyers have won two straight games – the return of Rik Nash to the lineup after sitting with an undisclosed injury has made all the difference for this club. Nash has two goals and two assists in his last two games to help the Rangers climb over .500 after the team went 0-3-1 in Nash’s four game absence. Marion Gaborik is playing better since Nash’s return – he and Ryan McDonaugh are averaging a point per game over their last three.

The Rangers are allowing an uncharacteristic 2.45 goals per game so far this season. Henrik Lundqvist is an OK 9-7-1 with a 2.28 GAA and .918 save %. However he is 2-0-0 in his last two games with a 1.44 GAA and .945 save%.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:
• Under is 14-3 in PHI last 17 Tue. games.
• PHI are 2-6 in their last 8 Tue. games.
• PHI are 4-11 in their last 15 road games.
• NYR are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. Atlantic.
• Under is 20-8-11 in NYR last 39 overall.
• PHI are 1-9 in the last 10 meetings.

The Flyers have just one win in the last 10 meetings overall and they are winless in their last five trips to MSG. The Rangers have absolutely owned the Flyers! With Nash back in the lineup and looking predictably terrific, the Rangers appear poised for a bit of a run. New York is far too good to be floundering around the .500 mark – they prove it Tuesday!

Pick: New York Rangers -152
