Blackhawks vs Flames NHL Line & Handicapping

Hawks Hope The Road Will Cure Their Woes – Visit Flames Tuesday Night

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks are in some sort of funk – three straight losses and a 4-3-5 record in their last 12 games. On Tuesday they take their show on the road to visit a Calgary team that rides a tidy two game win streak into Tuesday’s clash.

This is the same Calgary team that hasn’t won three straight all season long! The teams have split their two games so far this season – each winning on the road.

It is easy to see why the Chicago Blackhawks are struggling. Patrick Kane has registered just one goal and five assists in his last 13 games, Patrick Sharp has scored just one goal in 10 games since registering his second hat trick in five contests on Jan. 3, Kris Versteeg and Brent Seabrook are pointless in four games and guys like Hossa and Toews just aren’t showing up on the score sheet.

On the bright side they did outshoot the Jets 27-6 in the first two periods of their Sunday loss but just couldn’t put one home. This team is littered with talent and are much better than they have been playing.

Antti Raanta may get the start in the first end of back-to-back games – he is 3-1-0 with a 1.17 GAA and .924 save percentage in his last four games. Corey Crawford who may be rested for the Vancouver game is 0-1-1 with a 2.90 GAA and .882 save percentage in his last two games.

The Calgary Flames have put together back-to-back home wins over Phoenix and Nashville. They scored seven goals in those two wins – their season average is 2.21. David Jones has woken up and has two goals and an assist in his last two games, Mark Giordano has three goals and three assists during his current six-game point streak and Kris Russell and TJ Brodie each have three points in their last three games.

The Flames have still been a tad sketchy defensively – they are among the league bottom dwellers allowing 3.12 goals per game. If there is a team that Chicago should break out against – it’s Calgary.

A few trends to consider:
• CHI are 12-4 in their last 16 Tue. games.
• CHI are 25-10 in their last 35 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 7-3 in CHI last 10 overall.
• Under is 12-3 in CAL last 15 home games.
• CAL are 2-7 in their last 9 home games.
• CAL are 5-17 in their last 22 Tue. games.
• Home team is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings.
• CHI are 20-7 in the last 27 meetings.

The Hawks have lost their last three games away from home but you would have to think they will come out swinging Tuesday. The last time they visited the West, they went 6-1-0. The Hawks are 4-0-1 in their last five games against the Flames and they are absolutely due for a win. Take the Blackhawks to have a successful warm-up for Vancouver on Wednesday night.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks -180
