The Avalanche are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games overall and will be after their fifth straight road win while the Habs have rebounded from an ugly stretch last week and have won two straight ahead of the Tuesday showdown. Colorado have won four straight games against Montreal including a 4-1 triumph November 2 in the only meeting of the two teams so far this year.

The Colorado Avalanche continue to be one of the nicest surprises in the NHL this season – full marks for their standing and for their recent run of good play, particularly on the road. Offensively there aren’t a whole lot of teams that have been able to keep up – Colorado averages 3.03 goals per game.

Matt Duchene continues to lead the way as one of the hottest players in the game right now. He has 16 points in his last 10 games, John Mitchell has three goals and two assists in his last four games, Ryan O’Reilly has 14 points in 10 games, Gabriel Landeskog and Jamie McGinn each have three points in two games and Erik Johnson has eight points in seven games. Everything is going well for Colorado offensively – they possess a host of players that can make a difference each and every night.

Seymon Varlamov has been terrific for the Avs but they will turn to Jean-Sebastien Guigere Tuesday night. He won the only meeting of these teams this season to improve to a very impressive 7-1-0 in his last eight starts versus Montreal with a 2.26 GAA over that span. When Colorado is going well the defense is doing its job – precisely what is happening at the moment.

The Montreal Canadiens welcomed Carey Price back to the lineup Saturday for the first time since the Olympic break. He was OK in the win but a whole lot more from Price is needed if the Habs hope to go far into the playoffs. He should be between the pipes Tuesday despite having never won against Colorado. Price is 0-2-1 with a 3.61 GAA and .864 save percentage in his career against the Avalanche.

Montreal enjoyed a rare offensive explosion Saturday but came back down to earth with two goals in a win Sunday against Buffalo. The offense has struggled a tad lately – Brenden Gallagher and Andrei Markov each have just one point in their last four games while Danny Briere has just a single point in his last eight games. Montreal’s depth has been non-existent at times leaving the defense to carry the load. The only hot Habs? PK Subban who has three points in two games and Brian Gionta who has two points in two games.

A few trends to consider:
• COL are 7-2 in their last 9 overall.
• Over is 10-4 in COL last 14 games following a win.
• Under is 39-16-10 in MON last 65 Tue. games.
• MON are 6-13 in their last 19 Tue. games.

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the best road teams in the NHL with a 21-9-2 record. Expect the Avs to come up big for their Coach on Tuesday in a game the Mr. Roy would absolutely love to win. Carey Price gave up four goals in his return to action Saturday and has never beaten the Avs in his career. There are too many reasons not to love Colorado in this one!

Pick: Colorado Avalanche +106
