Let’s break it all down in Dave B’s bi-weekly edition of the NHL Power Rankings

1. San Jose Sharks (Two Weeks Ago: 2)

Have just one loss on the season and have been terrific on their current road trip – wins in Detroit, Montreal and Ottawa – their only loss came on the same trip – against Boston in a game that they outshot the Bruins 39-17. The Sharks are generating a ton of offense and are this week’s #1.

2. Colorado Avalanche (Two Weeks Ago: 3)

The Avs just keep getting it done – the second best record in the league and riding a nice four game win streak. They, like the Sharks have just one loss on the year. Colorado beat the Penguins last week, the Canes and the Jets as well. If you saw this coming you must be Kreskin!

3. Vancouver Canucks (Two Weeks Ago: 14)

Don’t look now but the Canucks are creeping up the standings – fourth overall after three straight road wins. They went 5-1-1 on a seven game road trip in 11 days (hardly fair) and once again proved that a little extra time doesn’t hurt this team.

Back on home ice the Canucks are a decent bet to stay high on the Rankings.

4. Boston Bruins (Two Weeks Ago: 7)

Are 7-3 on the season and 4-0 so far on the road this year. This team is strong from the net out and is a typical mainstay in the Dirty Dozen.

5. Anaheim Ducks (Two Weeks Ago: 8)

Went 2-2 last week but played all four games on the road outshooting their opponents in each. They are still #3 in the NHL overall standings with just three losses but need to get back home where they are 5-0 this year.

6. St. Louis Blues (Two Weeks Ago: 1)

The Blues are 6-1-2 on the season – they’ve played fewer games than any team in the league so far. Still, Alex Steen is near the top in league scoring. They have lost to the Jets and Canucks in the last 10 days which sees them slip a little in the Rankings.

7. Chicago Blackhawks (Two Weeks Ago: 6)

The defending champs have looked a tad vulnerable at times this year but you absolutely have to love the overall makeup of the squad. Corey Crawford has yet to find his Cup-winning form but he will!

8. Phoenix Coyotes (Two Weeks Ago: 10)

Keeps chugging along – not spectacular but solid just the same. [ad-4437448]

9. Toronto Maple Leafs (Two Weeks Ago: 5)

Keep getting outshot in games but coming up with the wins. Last week they beat the Pens and the Ducks but lost to the Jackets. This team has been terrific in all aspects of the game with the offense clicking and the goaltending more than holding its own. The Leafs are sixth in the standings with an 8-4-0 record.

10. Tampa Bay Lightning (Two Weeks Ago: 16)

Have won three straight games and are 8-3 on the year so far. They went 3-0 last week with wins over the Hawks, the Sabres and the Panthers. Ben Bishop is the answer in goal this team has been looking for – a 7-1 record with a .914 save percentage so far.

11. Minnesota Wild (Two Weeks Ago: 17)

Have won three straight games after the weekend and sit tenth in the standings with a 6-3-3 record. They have a solid team – realizing their potential has always been an issue.

12. Pittsburgh Penguins (Two Weeks Ago: 4)

Tough week for the Penguins – three losses have them clinging to a spot in the dirty dozen. They out-shot Colorado 34-14 in a 1-0 loss, out-shot the Islanders 42-25 in a 4-3 loss and out-shot Toronto 38-29 in a 4-1 loss – so it is not as bad as it seems on paper.

13. LA Kings (Two Weeks Ago: 9)
14. Detroit Red Wings (Two Weeks Ago: 11)
15. Montreal Canadiens (Two Weeks Ago: 12)
16. Washington Capitals (Two Weeks Ago: 24)
17. New York Islanders (Two Weeks Ago: 15)
18. Dallas Stars (Two Weeks Ago: 19)
19. Columbus Blue Jackets (Two Weeks Ago: 20)
20. Ottawa Senators (Two Weeks Ago: 22)
21. Nashville Predators (Two Weeks Ago: 23)
22. Calgary Flames (Two Weeks Ago: 13)
23. Winnipeg Jets (Two Weeks Ago: 18)
24. Carolina Hurricanes (Two Weeks Ago: 21)
25. Philadelphia Flyers (Two Weeks Ago: 29)
26. New York Rangers (Two Weeks Ago: 28)
27. New Jersey Devils (Two Weeks Ago: 27)
28. Florida Panthers (Two Weeks Ago: 25)
29. Edmonton Oilers (Two Weeks Ago: 26)
30. Buffalo Sabres (Two Weeks Ago: 30)
