Blackhawks vs. Predators Preview – Blackhawks lead series 3-2
Notice how everyone is already discussing the Canucks/Blackhawks series? It’s like we’ve all forgotten that Nashville isn’t eliminated yet.
That’s how impactful Chicago’s victory was last Saturday afternoon.
The Preds had the Hawks right where they wanted them, up 4-3 with 13.6 precious seconds left. Then Patrick Kane happened. Chicago’s star buried the tying goal shorthanded and sent the game to overtime, where Marian Hossa provided the dagger.
Most fans, pundits and bettors now believe the devastation of Nashville’s loss – so close to winning only to blow it – will be too much to overcome emotionally.
I have to agree. The Predators’ success has been largely momentum-based. They’re far less talented than the Hawks but they’re well-coached, defensively responsible and hard-nosed. Pekka Rinne had also arguably been the better goalie than Chicago’s Anti Niemi (who still has plenty of questions to answer) in the series before Game 5.
If they’d kept the world-beater mentality going with a second road win on Saturday, they could’ve closed out the series tonight.
Instead, I think Chicago will. The Blackhawks may be the NHL’s most skilled team overall and when you combine the huge emotional uplift of Saturday’s win with their immense talent, they may be unstoppable.
Hey – the Preds have surprised us aplenty in this series already — but I still see Chicago prevailing tonight.
Shea Weber will do everything in his power to keep Kane off the board but Nashville still has to worry about Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith…you get the idea.
