A comeback for the ages staked the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 series lead over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. Down 4-0 to the Kings, the Sharks rallied to tie the game 5-5 after two periods and won in overtime of Game 3. It was a stunning result in a stunningly entertaining NHL tilt!

The Sharks came alive in Game 3 after a first period in which they were completely steamrolled. Not only did they prove that their offense is back and ready to contend, but it also proved that the Sharks have some moxy and aren’t ever out of the game.

San Jose has been getting it done in the series without their Top Guns producing much at all. Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley have been virtually invisible in the offensive zone. Thank goodness for depth – Ryan Clowe has been the best Shark by far and has recorded two goals and three assists in the three games so far. If San Jose’s top line ever wakes up, this could be a short series!

Goaltending has become an issue for San Jose all of a sudden. Antti Niemi has been underwhelming in the last two games – he gave up four goals on 10 shots before being pulled in favor of Antero Niittymaki in the last game. Expect to see Niemi back however – he deserves another chance to right the ship.

The Los Angeles Kings have to be absolutely discouraged after Tuesday night’s loss. There is not much time to wallow however; Thursday night will be their most important game of the season.

The Kings offensive star of Game 2 was held in check in Game 3 – Drew Doughty played well but didn’t figure in on any of the Kings five goals. Kyle Clifford has stepped up big time for the Kings however and now has two goals and one assist in his last two games. Los Angeles is spreading the offense around and is making life miserable for all of the Sharks’ defensive pairings.

Like the Sharks, the Kings are having their share of goaltending issues. Jonathan Quick has lost four of his last five games overall and is coming off one of his worst efforts of the season thus far – six goals allowed on 36 shots.

NHL Betting Trends:
Over is 8-1-2 in SJ last 11 games following a win.
Over is 8-1-1 in SJ last 10 road games.
Over is 11-3-2 in SJ last 16 overall.
Under is 7-2-2 in LA last 11 overall.
LA are 3-9 in their last 12 Thu. games.
Under is 6-2-1 in LA last 9 home games.
SJ are 36-17-1 in the last 54 meetings.

Betting Prediction: The San Jose Sharks have win 17 of their last 24 games in Los Angeles and are 36-17-1 in their last 54 meetings with the Kings.

The wind has to be out of the Kings sails after their shocking loss on Tuesday night while the Sharks have to be pumped after their historic comeback win. Los Angeles needs Jonathan Quick to be their best player and with just one win in his last five starts, Quick simply isn’t. Take the Sharks to put a stranglehold on the series on Thursday night.

Pick: San Jose Sharks -125
