It hasn’t been Winnipeg’s starts that have plagued them in the series so far – it has been their finish. The Jets have led heading into the third period of all three games only to lose in heartbreaking fashion in the end.

The formula seems simple for the Anaheim Ducks – weather the Jets storm and wage a furious comeback in the third period. The comeback kid role is nothing new to the Ducks – Anaheim set a single-season record with 18 wins when trailing at any point in the third period.

The Ducks will enter Wednesday night’s game full of confidence. After all they have beaten the Jets seven straight times. Frederik Andersen has gone 6-0-0 with a 2.43 goals-against average in his last six starts versus Winnipeg and is 3-0-0 with a 2.27 GAA and .923 save percentage in the series.

Their offense has also been terrific particularly in the third period of the game. Corey Perry has five points in three games, Jacob Silfverberg has four points in two games, Andrew Cogliano has three points in two games and Cam Fowler, Francois Beauchemin and Hampus Lindholm each have two points in two games.

The Winnipeg Jets absolutely need to find a way to close the gap in the third period of games – they may lose this series based on their play after the second period despite playing well in the first two frames. The Jets have been outscored 7-0 in the third period and overtime so far in the series and have been outscored 14-1 after two periods during their seven game skid against Anaheim and they have beaten Frederik Andersen just once in the third period of his last six starts against the team.

Some contributions from the studs on the team would certainly help as well. Check out the list of players that are pointless so far in the series – Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, Mikael Frolik and Jiri Tlusty. Blake Wheeler has just one point as does Brian Little, Mark Scheifele and Mathieu Perrault. The power play is at 10% and the penalty kill is operating at just a 70% clip.

Numbers like that don’t get you a whole lotta wins in the NHL playoffs especially against a very good Anaheim team. And then there is the play of…

Ondrej Pavelec was supposed to be the difference maker for the Jets heading into the series – he just hasn’t been. Pavelec has allowed 10 goals in the three games and has posted an unflattering .893 save percentage over that span.

Pavelec is a miserable 0-3-3 with a 3.91 GAA in his last six starts against the Ducks

NHL Gambling Trends

• ANA are 36-15 in their last 51 vs. Central.
• Under is 7-3-2 in ANA last 12 Wed. games.
• Over is 12-3-2 in WIN last 17 vs. Pacific.
• WIN are 11-5 in their last 16 home games.

There has been some goals scored in the last two games of the series – six were scored in Game 2 and seven were scored in Game 3. I like that trend to continue – Ondrej Pavelec hasn’t been the series changer that most had envisioned and the Jets are good for a few goals in front of their rabid home town fans as well.

It is pretty hard to know how emotions will play a part in Wednesday’s game of who wins. The safe play is the Over – 5 1/2 goals- I think both teams will fill the back of the net.

The Over – 5 1/2 goals (-125)
