ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

This series has been heavily one-sided, never more so than in Game 2, when the Sharks outscored the Kings 7-0 over the final two periods in a 7-2 drubbing. Now the Kings are left searching for answers, with top goaltender Jonathan Quick looking lost.

The Sharks got help from some unlikely sources in Game 2, with fourth-liners Mike Brown and Raffi Torres tallying in the second period. Defenseman Justin Braun also chipped in a goal, just his fifth of the season. The other goals came from the usual suspects, with Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, and Jose Thornton all notching markers.

Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in the contest. At the other end, Quick looked lost at times, stopping just 33 of the 40 shots he faced. This is big news for a Sharks team that had trouble solving him a year ago, scoring just 10 in last year’s postseason series, which went the full seven games.

That game marked just the third comeback from a two-goal deficit after 20 minutes in franchise history, with the first taking place in 1994 against Detroit, and the other taking place in 2011 against these very Kings. The team also marked another milestone, as their seven goals matched a franchise playoff record set back in 1999.

The Sharks have now won three in a row in this series after dropping five of the previous seven.

The Kings are a prideful group, particularly head coach Darryl Sutter, so getting their asses handed to them so handily isn’t going to sit well with a team that is just a year removed from winning the Stanley Cup.

Now, with the series shifting back to Los Angeles, the have their backs to the wall, but have a chance to really swing the momentum back over to their side.

When these teams met in the playoffs a year ago, the home side went 7-0. Looking further back, the Sharks are just 3-10 in their last 13 road playoff games. In all meetings between the Sharks and Kings over the last three seasons, the home side is 22-2.

The Sharks are 1-10 in Los Angeles in that span, including 0-8 in the past two seasons.

The home team is 35-16 in the last 51 meetings between these teams.

The play: Los Angeles -129
