Canucks vs. Blackhawks Preview

One of the most anticipated second round NHL series began on Saturday night and all of the hatred was not even close to evident.

The Vancouver Canucks controlled the listless Chicago Blackhawks physically and mentally and most importantly on the score board. It will be interesting to see how Game 2 plays out tonight. Emotion is key for the Blackhawks who will be looking to stop the Vancouver momentum, please the home town fans and even the Conference semi-final series.

The Vancouver Canucks either hit the Chicago Blackhawks at the right time or their preparation for Round 2 must have been off the charts.

The Canucks were able to roll four lines evenly and have each line equally effective. Speed, fore checking and a solid transition game helped Vancouver easily beat up on the Hawks 5-1.

Vancouver’s offense largely came off turnovers and opportunistic rebounds that were there for the picking all night.

Five different Canucks scored goals in Game 1 and twelve different Canucks registered at least one point. Any team that is as balanced and as potent as the Canucks were on Saturday is going to be tough to beat.

Captain Roberto Luongo appeared to be saying all the right things before and after the Canucks’ Game 1 victory. His confident words have been backed up by his confident play on the ice. Luongo looks like a man on a mission and appears to be taking this series personally. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

The Chicago Blackhawks were outplayed in every category in Game 1. The big question was – where is the emotion? The Hawks lacked any sort of passion and subsequently paid the price with a Game 1 loss.

Offensively, the Chicago Blackhawks were a total mess. 37 shots on Roberto Luongo seemed more like 20 although a strong 17 shot first period really padded their shot stats.

There was no speed, no forecheck and no patented big hits from the young Chicago team that terrorized the NHL all season. The Hawks’ intimidating defense appeared overmatched by the speed and the will of the Vancouver forwards.

Let’s hope that Chicago wakes up and at least entertains in Game 2. Only the hard core Canucks fan could have enjoyed Game 1. The game was dry and lacking all of the intensity of a typical playoff game or match between these two hated rivals.

I think that Antti Niemi is again the difference in Game 2. His inability to control rebounds will stake the Canucks to a lead and take the wind out of the Hawks sails once again.

Chicago is in trouble folks – Vancouver is rolling.

One reply on “Game 2 Vancouver Canucks vs. Chicago Blackhawks NHL Picks / Preview”

Let’s not get too big in the head shall we. As any Canuck fan is aware of the disaster that was game 7 versus the New York Rangers in 1994. Yes, the Canucks had pulled up a 2 game streak after falling 3 games to 1 against, but winning the best of 7 over and over again, playing all 7 games of each series will take the best out of any team. Yes, i want Vancouver to win, yes, i will put them into my nightly prayers to God, but after years of heartbreak, seeing them slip to the bottom and crawl their way close to the top 16 years later, I will hold my breath and watch them play out of the sheer joy of the game. If the Cup returns to a Canadian Team I’ll consider it a cherry on the ice cream sundae of another fantastic Hockey season.
