Eastern Conference

Habs vs. Bruins

The Bruins (53-19-10, +34.49), meet the eighth-seeded Montreal Canadiens (41-30-11, -14.95) in the opening round just one year after the Habs defeated the Bruins in seven games in Round 1, Boston is favored this year.  Game 1 odds have the Bruins favored by a goal and a half, and -210 on the moneyline.

Rangers vs. Caps

Alex Ovechkin and his teammates have to first get by the New York Rangers (43-30-9, -6.60), before they can take on the Bruins. But what a matchup that would be EH??? The Caps come into this series on fire though, as they finished second in the NHL in goals per game (3.3), and were 5-1-1 O/U over their last seven matchups. Game 1 odds have the Caps favored by a goal and a half, and -175 on the moneyline.

Hurricanes vs. Devils

The New Jersey Devils (51-27-4, +5.35) ended their season with a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, now in the first round they get to play them again. Game 1 odds see the Devils favored by a goal and a half, and -145 on the moneyline.

Penguins vs. Flyers

The Pittsburgh Penguins (45-28-9, -0.90) draw a first round matchup versus their old foe the Philadelphia Flyers (44-27-11, +9.89), who the Penguins defeated in the Eastern Conference final last year.  Game 1 odds see the Penguins favored by a goal and a half, and -155 on the moneyline.

Western Conference

Ducks vs. Sharks

The 2009 Presidents’ Trophy-winning Sharks (53-18-11, -11.33 units) open the playoffs against the Anaheim Ducks (42-33-7, -1.13). Anaheim cashed seven of its last ten contests (7-3 O/U) to end the season. Game 1 odds see the Sharks favored by a goal and a half, and -220 on the moneyline.

Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings

Losers of four of their last 5 NHL matchups the second-seeded Red Wings (51-21-10, -17.08) begin defense of their Stanley Cup crown against the Columbus Blue Jackets (41-31-10, -13.34).  Game 1 odds see the Red Wings favored by a goal and a half, and -240 on the moneyline.  Columbus could be a great sleeper pick for this year.

Blues vs. Canucks

Talking Sleeper? Check out Vancouver.  They finished (45-27-10, +10.38), and used a strong second half to finish third in the West. Their reward? The hottest team in the NHL (41-31-10, +12.77), plus Kariya comes back for this one to face his hometown team.  As Luongo goes so will go the Canucks.  The Game 1 odds see the Canucks favored by a goal and a half, and -190 on the moneyline.

Flames vs. Blackhawks

The Blackhawks (46-24-12, +23.59) and the Calgary Flames (46-30-6, -11.04) present a really interesting first round matchup. Calgary brings veteran leadership and a great goalie, and possibly the best home ice crowd to this one, and the Blackhawks bring young creativity, the Bulin Wall for a goalie, and a bunch of kids who aren’t scared of anyone. Game 1 odds see the Blackhawks favored by a goal and a half, and -165 on the moneyline.

Mid way through the first series there are a few surprises as in San Jose losing their first two, but for the most part, the better teams are controlling their series.

Keep an eye on the Capitals as their big win in game four could propel them to an upset over New Jersey.
